Logic Behind Gold Top Pickup Schemes?

Just curious....my new Gold Top came with black, open-bobbin pickups which look so out of place to my eye. I would think crème perhaps or even nickel covers....perhaps even zebras.

Is there any original guitar Gibson is mimicking when they chose these pickups????

What pickups are in it Robert ??? They might be the ceramic magnet 496/500T set.To me a real Goldtop does not have a TOM bridge and tailpiece set up.Wrap Around with the nickel hardware.:hide:

I think you are giving them way too much credit. This is a company that made a guitar called a '50's tribute with a '60's profile neck on occassion. It is not hard or expensive to add covers.

Yeah and your the guy who took a dremel to a what was it R7 LOL you crazy son of a gun but I cant deny you got cohones !
R6. Another good point. Who makes a guitar without adjustable pickups!? I guess that was the vintage move, but I am surprised Les Paul did not think of it back then. I will give him a pass though - he came up with some other good stuff!

He probably did their sorry a$$ just decided to take short cut save money thinking no one will no or care or take a Fooking dremel out and route the hell
out of it to adjust the pups in the first placeLOL
More weird Gibson stuff - some years of the R6 historics were adjustable and some were not - they went back and forth. I guess it depended on how big the budget was that year! So much for historical accuracy!

Thank God this has the fat 50's neck. I won't buy a slim taper!

Yeah I think it needs a crème p90 in the bridge. LOL or covers or zebras LOL .I'm you you the black looks outta place. Beside you will
have to then gut the pcb ad treble bleed or whatever that was maybe throw in a 9db boost do some shielding and lots and lots of bitchin and aggrevation
then in the end almost Nirvana or earvana in this case.

Got my eye on a Doug Aldrich Zebra set....

I'm going with cream. I think the gold body distorts perception. If it is cream, it's an easy match.

It's difficult till tell from my vantage point. Look at my thumbnail icon....that's cream....gives you something to compare...kind of.

This is cream, under natural light. It's also a shameless plug of my guitar....but it doesn't change the fact that I have cream plastic for comparison. I can post another photo if needed?:)
