This has been a challenging week here and today we have had a real break from flood threats. Over the last seven days, I have seen some of the worst small stream flooding in my memory. Roads and bridges have been awash on all sides, literally, and the monetary costs will be astronomical, but there has been very little loss of life. I was marveling at that fact when the first shoe dropped.
One of the last Stratoclones I built was for a local reggae player who is about half my age. His sister came by this morning to tell me he is in the hospital in Chicago, diagnosed with -stage 4 cancer of the pancreas. He is not expected to last the week.
The second came when I was called by an old friend who lives in New York and told that a longtime friend and someone who's council and opinion I have sought for almost 40 years is in a hospital with a severe, possibly antibiotic resistant infection, and although her physical condition is serious, apparently the main issue is her lack of a will to live, something that kills a lot of folks.
You play the hand you're dealt and try to draw better cards, when you get the chance, but sometimes, the cards just suck and others, you're just played out.
I will soon be able to keep my address book on the inside flap of a Paper match book.

I lost a lot of friends in 2015. One a month for the first 9 months of 2015. I'm just glad that I'm still here to miss the ones that are not still here.

Sorry for your loss Biddlin and Wav and Tony. I am glad to hear you are safe Biddlin.

For what it is worth, thank you all for the perspective check. I spent the last 12 hours drowning in a puddle. I wish you all safe passage into tomorrow my friends.

Life can be pretty hard at times and I know from experience with the loss of my wife, mother and cat within 7 months. But there is always opportunity knocking at your door. All you have to do is pay attention. Hang in there Bo Biddlin.

;>)

Hang in there man. I have a friend who whenever he is asked "How yo doing?" he replies "I woke up with a pulse so things are pretty good." It's tough getting old. In a small town, and it sounds like you're in a small town, reading the local papers it seems like all the obituaries are your peers. I keep a positive outlook, like my friend. As long as I have a pulse things are pretty good.

Yep, like Kerry just said and then some.
Good day so far.
I woke up, win.
No mushroom cloud over Manhattan, win.
$20.00 came right out of the ATM, win.

Sorry for your losses. I've lost some good friends through the years. As I get older the reality of death becomes more real. I have also become more grateful for everyday I have above ground.

So sorry to learn of your loss.... :-(

Sorry to hear of the news. Your right about the hand being dealt. Sometimes not fair, no matter how you play it.

Yesterday I went to a wake for a friend I've known for 35 years. He was only 51. I saw his mother there.....just not the way it should be. His beautiful obit was written by his longtime best friend, Otis, who himself passed away 5 years ago. Otis was his bird! I didn't know until I read it, that he light a smoke bomb in middle school. Otis said it wasn't a cheap one either, but a big one from his boat. That's Fred.....made me smile!

I know the rent is in arrears,
The dog has not been fed in years
It's even worse than it appears,
It's all right

Life can be a bitch sometimes. That's why I focus on the little things and the everyday stuff.

Today I'm eating hotdogs for dinner with my wife and kids. The kids love it, we grown-ups not so much, but seeing how the young ones enjoy it makes it worth it.

I just got home from work early. I've cracked open a beer.

It's not raining and there are birds in my garden.

My dad is still alive and healthy. (That's a rather big thing...)

I'm waiting for a new P90 to arrive in the mail for my Les Paul Junior.

Thanks to the wonders of recording, I can listen to Peter Green play guitar anytime I want.

Hang in there Biddlin. I hope you are feeling better.
