Keith Richards

Keith said selling the songs is a sign of getting old. :hmmm:

Also, once you sell the publishing rights, you no longer have control of your material. Depending on how your contract is written, you may have to pay to play your music. Look at the mess Fogarty was left with after bad contracts and Creedence Clearwater Revival not being able to play their songs. I'm surprised that both Springsteen and Dylan did, as they have always been reluctant to let people use their songs for campaigns, advertising, and other low brow embarkments. And, like Joe said. Stones money is huge, as is Dylan. Think of how many times on how many radio stations around the world still play their music. That's a crap load more money than they'll ever get from Spotify or Pandora.

Selling your catalog is short sighted to me. I can see it if you aren't that big of an artist with a massive catalog of high value: take the money and run like Steve Miller suggested. But when you are not even merely a musician any longer but an iconic institution like the Stones, its career suicide to hand over a gold mine for a one time payout.

These guys have grandkids and even great grandkids now and those catalogs are worth untold fortunes that can feed on thru your bloodline for generations to come.

Good for Keith for saying screw it and not letting someone own him or his creativity
