Joe "B" stepping out with "Lucy"

I just cant dig ol Joe B .....he is good damn good ...technically..... he has forgotten more licks and chords than I will ever know.....he appears to put his heart and soul into it.......but it just (I am sorry ) comes off white washed.......its missing a true understanding ......
I mean --- I cant play the blues like BB King or Muddy Waters either -------there is a REALness to BB's vocals......there is a grit to Albert Kings version of Bad Sign.....

same guitar...........so its NOT the axe.........but listen to the difference.....

1 lived it---- 1 plays it......sorry --- and yes Stevie is in there and --- well he "gets it" as well. Its organic...the song FLOWS......its not forced....practiced and "preformed"

I understand that, but it doesn't make JB bad...just different. BB King liked him well enough...

Joe B is a very very good guitar player, but he annoys the crap out of me i rather liaten to him then see that smung face of his

He is really a cool guy, I met him here in LA. He was not smug in person. He signed 3 items for me without hesitation.

I think he tries too hard to make the "guitar" face.

Agreed Sp8ctre it does not make him BAD at all.....perhaps a LACK of "Bad" as I say he is a very good guitarist---writer--- amazing student of the blues that has reached mastery----- there is just a missing element--- and HEY I DO NOT have that element either.

I love the Rolling Stones......but I cant STAND to watch them...... I can listen to them all day--- but I cant get through 3 minutes of Mick prancing like a princess looking for her little pony around the stage.......he is good -- he has made BILLIONS--- who am I??? I'll buy his records but I aint wathcing him.....sorry

Same deal. I respect Joe--- and his position in the world--- but--- I dont HAVE to like him....

EDIT-- perhaps thats it ---- maybe he tries to hard and it shows??????

Like I said Stevie and Albert was ---flowing--- real --- organic.....not robotic and technical...

NOt saying he maybe a great guy to hang with--- just cant buy what he is selling ---

it's cool...you're not buyin' and I'm not sellin'

As for the Stones, well they put on a spectacular show and I'm damn glad I've got to see them!

One of my biggest disappointments was Ritchie Blackmore...huge showboat...them went off stage got a poop guitar just to smash in front of the audience...
If you're not just getting into the music and go into a fury and smash your guitar why bother...lame

So unless you had a drug addicted abusive set of parents and grew up in a sharecropper shack
with 14 brothers and sisters and half of them died from overdoses of one thing or another you
can't REALLY play the blues because you haven't "lived it"?

That's like saying you can't play country unless you milk cows and plow your own cornfield.
C'mon Adrian, it's a style of music. A rich white guy can play it just fine as long as he isn't John Meyer.

I'm not a huge fan but I really like this song. I've even sang and played live a few times, both with and without a backing band. The writer of the song is another acquired taste, Tom Waites.

And with that staement --- you agree to UNDERSTANDING what I am saying

John is in the same boat.

You all can argue it all ya want...And note at no point did i say Joe B SUCKS or anything to that effect--- .......Joe lacks a flavor the masters posses ......maybe LIVING the blues not being a rich white kid DOES make a difference.... I dont know.....its like Walmart BBQ Sauce VS Baby Rays.....both work just one tastes better.

I know Gene Simmons cant play a bass like Jack BRuce........but one sure makes a poop load more $ ....... so do they both suck? No they are different.

Gald you where able to stomach the show Chris---- I will enjoy the stones Pandora channel all day long :)

Exactly.

I had a dream the other night where Joe.B made an appearance; we didn't make it to stage 7 or even stage 8, it was just about guitar playing... It ended with him sending me a Gibson Custom Shop Gold Top by way of thanks for stepping in at the last minute (a local gig) and helping the performance go so well. As I said, t'was but a dream...

Sadly, Lucy was not involved:

For me, the blues is Albert King or Gary Moore. SRV was also a huge talent in this genre. Although the Strat tone left me a little disappointed, I loved his feel and techniques. I dig the blues and I played them a lot, but I'm not a hardcore, blues only fan...if that makes sense???

I feed on energy. Early Dio, Maiden, AC/DC, Megadeth, Scorpions, Warrant, Ozzy, Ratt, and the like affect me like adrenalin...modern top 40 music, country pop, grunge, alternative...honestly I just change the channel. I can't bear it.

Only a few modern tunes I can dig...hard to handle, cold hard bitch, lips of an angel, wash it all away, seal the deal....are examples of more modern stuff I have actually listen to in their entirety.

I'm very musically narrow...
