Amp Mad Scientist
Ambassador of Heresy
We don't know yet if the defect is in the amp itself, in the cable, or in the footswitch. Could be any of those 3.Alright….here’s a work around for you…
Take a single, latching, on/off footswitch…one that uses a standard TS jack…like a single channel switch for an amp, like a Fender amp…I used the one that I have used for decades with my Laney. You can buy one from most music stores. Plug the footswitch lead into the “1/4 inch “loop” jack. Leave your loop controls set to footswitch mode. Your “Bigfoot” will still switch channels as usual, but the separate switch will take over the FX loop duties.

Yeah…I need to clean the inside of my amp…but it works.
As I said, I’ve had that on/off switch for decades…but something like this will work…

I have one, and use it interchangeably with the one I just used…a Marshall one may work, but I don’t have one to test…

I have no idea if the light will work though. But if you have one kicking around, you might want to give it a try. You could also make one if you’re feeling crafty…I made one in an electric light switch housing once, along with some other junk I had laying around. Point is, it will override the midi switching for that feature…this is likely the problem…either the amp relays, the cable, or the “Bigfoot” switch…this will/should bypass it…it does for me. I just fired it up to test.
Yeah…it sucks….the big switch isn’t working right for you, but at least they built in a redundancy to remedy the possibility of failure.
If he plugs a footswitch into the external switching control jack, does it bypass the loop? Or not?
