I’m home.

Just got back from spending a week in Maine.

Among many other activities, such as spending a LOT of time snorkeling in Cold Stream Pond (which is a actually a gorgeous, spring-fed lake, with incredible water clarity) I spent a little time playing my nephew-in-law’s Schecter through his 100 watt Crate halfstack.

He has three Crate heads. One is a tube head and the others are solid state.

He brought one of the SS heads and a cabinet to the camp (people from Maine will understand the “camp” reference!).

That is a very killer sounding amplifier.

YOu left????????????? ;)

Believe me...I didn’t want to come back.

Every time we go up to visit my wife’s family, I ponder how I can stay up there.

You’d love it...green forests...clear water...friendly people...lots of snow...numbingly cold winters...everything you love!

There is also a pretty active music scene up there. My nephew-in-law was telling me about the band he’s in.

In fact, I think he may be gigging at this very moment.

This was our second time there.

My wife is from a large family. Every couple of years we converge in the wilderness.

We passed through Massachusetts on our way back about 9:00 this morning.

We’ve already begun planning the next trip to Cold Stream two years from now.
I’ve been shopping that general area Southward for a camp myself. A good friend has a camp just a little Northwest of where you were at. I love it up there!

This is literally the accent and mannerism I heard all week long...and I STILL can’t copy it!

I’m pretty good with accents, but the Maine accent still eludes me!

As the week wore on, my wife, my little Bangor Babe, (yes, she grew up in Bangor, Maine!) began to relapse more and more into her native Maine accent.

Of course, I, being from Northern Illinois, felt honor-bound to reproduce my northern Midwest vocalizations, which is kinda like hic-Chicagoan.

What accent?

I live NE Illinois up by the border and can’t speak Chicago.

you had me..............till snow

and last I checked that "M" place is NORTH of the FL/Ga line--so--- ya'll have fun up that. ;)

Dude.

Let me tell ya...

This morning when we left the camp we rented...it was dark.

I mean....

It was wicked dark.

Before I fired up the mini-van to come on home, we looked up and saw stars we’d never seen before, because the city lights obscure them. But, out in the middle of almost-nowhere...where even Google Maps sometimes gives you wrong directions...We looked at the Milky Way....I saw a meteorite flash across the sky.

I see no such things here in the Metro-DC area. The light pollution of the cities around us condemn us to a life of sameness.

Oh...I almost forgot...I love listening to the call of the loons at night.

I love Maine. It's a nice short drive from where I live in Mass. My favorite band from Portland is Murcialago. They are friends of mine. Zeme Libre is also quite good. I also love Tiger Bomb featuring Chris Horne from The Brood. They were one of the best garage bands of all time. The music scene in Portland is awesome. I love heading up there for shows.

If my wife didn't work at Logan Airport in Boston, we would have moved to Maine ages ago.

Next time you're there, hit me up. I'm about 10 minutes east of RT 95 as you're driving through the Topsfield/Peabody stretch.

Oh, and everyone in Mass knows what "going up to camp" means. It seems like 80% of the population has a camp somewhere near Millinocket.

If you go further up into Maine, or into New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, it looks like someone took a very wide paintbrush dipped in white paint, and threw a big wide stripe at the sky. You definitely know why they call it the Milky Way when you see that big wide stripe of our part of the galaxy going across from one horizon to the other.

Still see those shooting stars here at night and in the early Morning ----Im a good 30 min from "city" -- which is Lakleand Fl -- a mere fraction of the size of one area of "D.C."

I am sure Maine is very nice and Nova Scotia and NEw Brunswick----those are on my "to do" list of Motorcycle rides as well. ----

One day I'll get that passport and be able to leave Florida ........one day
