I used to fish way more than I do now. Decided to get into the hobby of rod building.... more like rod assembling. Purchase materials. The rod blank. Eyes. Seat. String and glue. Etc.
Built a couple fiberglass rods. I think they may have come as kits. A bait-caster graphite rod. And a couple graphite spin-cast rods. Each time got a little better. Then we moved. Both fishing and rod building went by the wayside. Hope to fix the fishing part this year now that I'm retired. Anyway. Here's some photos of the last one I put together. Nothing super fancy as custom built rods go. But I was happy with the end result. Planning to abuse this thing this spring/summer/fall.

Im no pro fisherman. Me and the wife just fish the local streams and lakes.Theres lots of them around here locally.
Nor am I. Just enjoy it. Before moving to the Lake Michigan side of Illinois we lived on the Mississippi River side. What I liked about fishing the river was you never knew what you might catch. I could catch and bring home 4 or 5 fish for supper….. and not have a duplicate species.

I used to fish until I got my salt water tank some years ago. Just can't do it anymore. Very relaxing hobby though.

Awesome hobby with the poles, @iblive.

As a kid I was in a sports store and I "tested" out an Ugly Stick. Remember the very popular commercial in the early '80s where the guy quickly just bent it in half with 0 issues? No breaks, no nothing. It wasn't my luck. I bailed pretty quick.

Looking back I realize I didn't distribute the weight in a circular pattern so the pressure would be equally distributed throughout the pole.

Silly me. I wonder how many Ugly Stick casualties were suffered during that era for business while people "tried" them out.

Lol.
