Hot pods?

Anyone fancy a hot pepper? Any growers here?

My four plants were all stunted early on and will not produce well. Last year was worse.

What you see here are two Devil's Tongue pods. A local cultivar that started as habanero in the 90s.

I've eaten one thus far, was proper hot. Had to have been over 100k SCU. I will get some jalapeños (let them turn RED!!), Aji Amarillo and Aji Mango.

I quite like those, but the red ones are better. In 2018 I ordered roasted frozen Sandia chilies from a Hatch, NM grower. Five pounds of green, five of the red. They were at least as hot as jalapeños, maybe a tad more. Vacuum packed, boxed with dry ice. Was pricey but a fine one time purchase to experience the fabled pods.

I might see what they are being priced at this year as they were quite delicious.

The hottest I have grown were chocolate bhut jolokia aka ghost peppers in 2022. The ghost are my favorite 1M+ SCU pods.

Shown here with Trinidad 7 Pot pods.

I also bought a box of the world's hottest including the Carolina Reaper in 2022. The box of stupid. Had to do that once, like the Hatch chilies.

You need to work your way up to that level of heat, I would never eat an entire one raw. Is a matter of using just enough not to overwhelm. The Trinidad sweets were almost mild enough to eat raw. The bubblegum were mislabeled, likely basic 7 Pots.

I'm now a recovering stupid hot pod fan, the Devil's Tongue being plenty for me.
