Have you ever tried an attenuator?I cant take the volume. its too loud/ guess I'm too old, F*ck!!

it was with the stock power tubes on the stock PT. My PT never fried; I was going to play it until it did but was concerned about collateral damage.
I noticed a lack of volume and realized one power tube was cold or cool / the filaments were still glowing. I did have it biased pretty hot at the time, dont recall the % power dissipation or ma, but recall it was somewhere over 70%.
I have the parts for the dirt channel mods to get closer to JCM800 / 2204 50w specs but just (as usual) have not had the time and other priorities.
Been playing it on the clean channel with pedals mostly. The cleans and the reverb are really sweet Fender BF.
It really shines with a mid heavy OD like a TS, etc.
It sounds really good / classic rock tones with PAFish A5 bridge HB pickups and the Mosky Obsessive OCD clone too.
STill cant quite get the trebly grit similar to UFO Rock Bottom or Doctor Doctor but that may be I really cant crank it to serious power tube OD.

I remember that discussion!I just crank it up and step way back to the end of my 20' chord...ask Wav about how loud we ran one up in my shop. It was peelin' paint off the walls.
I have not; the discussions I hear read on them suggests it colors the tone substantially / kills treble.Have you ever tried an attenuator?

They are also pricey to the point I have not tried it.
If the amp has an FX loop...But, there's an even easier way...Boss FV30L in the FX loop...
Yes, good attenuators can be pricey. "Colors the tone" & "kills treble" really depends on how much attenuation you are using. A lot of the difference in the tone is due to the natural way we hear certain frequencies depending on the actual volume. Some attenuators have features to help compensate for it. The most effective and transparent way to use an attenuator is to "mildly" attenuate with one. Cranking most amps will result in blistering and painful volumes in a small room. Using an attenuator to reduce blistering volumes down to only bold and loud volumes is where the magic is. I'm talking about a range of 3db to 9db, maybe 12dB of volume reduction. Any more than that, you'll be looking to readjust you EQ settings.(Attenuator)

Sounds like an isolation room is in order!!!
My 40 watt tube Marshall's are so loud - and clear - it almost defies explanation. Our former guitarist's Carvin full stack couldn't even get close to the volume and clarity these DSL40C's produce!!!
