Have you done any busking?

I personally have not I like watching some of the videos that are out there. There is some great talent. It has crossed my mind but as of yet not pulled the trigger.

I would be likely be exorcised by a passing priest for summoning up demons from the storm drains.

My music is too heavy. It would have a narrow listening audience.

There are a couple dudes in Venice that pretty much play all metal. They seem to draw pretty well.

That surprises me! Metal seems to have such a cult following these days...

I have played coffee houses as a two piece...with a colleague. I guess that's as close as I have come!

A very long time ago (1980’s) me and two friends had a band and decided to spend a day busking at a local suburban shopping precinct as a way to get experience playing in front of others.
Another busker approached us and wanted to fight us because we were apparently taking money from him and he had a family at home to feed. Being the considerate teenagers we were we politely informed him that if he indeed had a family to feed at home then he might consider getting a real job and being a bit more of a responsible adult!
I still can’t figure out why he wanted a fight :hmmm:

We then moved to another part of the town centre and set up outside a plant shop run by a local fashion model of some repute. After about half an hour she came out and said to us
“Boys, I think you’ve had your fun and now it might be time to pack up and go home”
In other words; stop putting off my customers and piss off! She was a pretty classy lady and was very nice about it though.

And so ended my career as a busker :dood:

It may be somewhat underground in the sense that it's completely ignored by the mainstream (at least in the US) but there is still a huge metal community out there and its thriving. No shortage of new, exciting bands and plenty of people still buying the music and going to shows.

But you also have to remember, what we called "metal" in our day is awfully tame stuff by modern standards. It would fall into the category of "hard rock" today, and there are plenty of new bands filling that category as well. I was just listening to 'Kill The Flaw" by Sevendust at the gym this morning and it was kicking my a$$ all over the place.

Me no, skill and confidence issues :-(
I have a friend, good player and singer (also a qualified music teacher), I once asked him about busking. He said as an old bloke the comments can be very cutting, comments such as "Man you must have failed in life to be busking at your age". You can't busk and reply to sh*t like that at the same time.

Nope, no way. Not me.
A band setting, or jamming at a keg is as far as I go.

I just went to a restaurant where a lady would walk to each table and do an acoustic jam. I had to admire her courage to perform like that.

I hit the solo open mic nights on occasion.
The only thing close to street busking is when I sell instruments at outdoor street fairs.
The playing usually gets a crowd to stop & linger about, hopefully buying something.

Have you heard of a guy called Miguel Montalban? He is a pro busker check him out on Youtube, You have to see this guy play Cocaine.

Honestly, I think I'd be pretty intimidated to try busking. I have no issues on a stage. But, I think busking would be tough.

Whenever I see someone do it, I do toss in something for them if I have any money on me. I have respect for those who have the guts to do it.
