met with the cat that did my hand surgery today.
after i gushed with thanks, i found out the facts.
the good news is i have 4 fingers...
bad news is 3 of the 4 are stitched more than a quilt.
the one that the bone was severed has 2 steel pins in it, and the thumb is gone from below the middle knuckle...
the thumb situation is a done deal. it's over.
the fingers should regain some function, after the scaring and therapy.
here's some fun gore, that's the saw cut just below the knuckle...

my left hand as it appears today.
but, i still have 4 finger tips. so who knows.
hoping for the best.

Hang in there. Think Django Reinhardt. I have a friend who is missing the top 2” of his left hand pointer finger and has limited functioning of the the others. He uses a finger pick on that finger to extend it. He’s a better lead player than me. He can’t do barre chords but he has come up with some amazing voicings of partial chords. He taught me some of them. If that still doesn’t work there is always slide.
