Give Me Some Feedback...

I have to submit a few bars of Santana Europa to see if I've come close to matching the sound. I have to do this by playing through Amplitube and tweaking the amp...no effects allowed. So here is what I came up with...what do you think?

P.S....If you all think I'm getting good, I must admit to some editing here. I can't get through the entire sample without some mistakes...so I took the liberty of editing some of the riffs together...

Nice job. The notes are all there. Just be more mindful of the note value and and rests. If you do that, you will really have something nice

The tone is pretty much right. But if you want to sound like Carlos, you need to play sharp. He always pushes his string way up the fretboard before his starts his vib. Yours sound better though.

HEy ----its worked for countless "stars" in the recording studio --- why not you ;)

--- Carlos tone--- you need a room with no lights---just candles and a couple tequilas before you play and your golden man --Like Ray said the notes are there.....time and practice will loosen up and allow the flow --- Carlos been playing it 30 years dude......

Is the sound close? I hear Carlos uses a Flanger to help get his sound. I have to do with amp tweaks only. Am I close?

Sound is close,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I think Don is spot on, Carlos does bend a wee bit sharp,,,,,,,,,,, and he plays Europa with a combo of Stocatto and fluidity. Think about where he sounds choppy. Now in case you think u sucked, NOPE, you did great replicating the tune.:cheers::cheers:

Here is one version or Europa I think is one of his best renditions.

Thanks for the feedback and mentioning the "Choppy" I think I can do choppy. I am really trying to get my fluidity going.

I think too much and it slows me down...I also have a VERY hard time memorizing the entire song tab.

Are you using your neck pickup(or maybe both neck and bridge...with the bridge volume dialed back to taste), tone knob, and volume knob?
It does sound pretty good.
Maybe just a notch back on the reverb.(but I'm crazy like that)

Watch that LIVE from London video I posted. U may see how Carlos does stuff in the closeups of his hands.

I tried all 3 ways and ended up on the neck pup. I almost went with the bridge, but I couldn't seem to dial out the harshness.
Of course it's different depending on the guitar I choose. My sample was done on a Les Paul Traditional with Bernie Marsden Beast Buckers.

Wow, sounds like it could be a bridge pickup on an LP. I'd dial the tone knob back a bit. There are passages in the live vid that chilli posted where he dials it way back.

Thanks for the video recommendation. It does help to watch him play it up close.

I watched about 3 different videos and I noticed he up picks most of the notes...maybe I should try that???

I also realize that at my early stage of learning I am much to mechanical and have no soul when I play. I have yet to develop the "Feel"...

Chris, I think your effort was very good. Self criticism is usually toughest, but you made good progress with the performances you recorded thus far.
