Gage--Gauge--12? 44? Uzi -- 9mm? wait what

Yep. I run 9/42 on 25.5 inch scale and 10/46 on 24.75. I find my Gibsons stay in tune much better with the heavier gauge.
 
I use 9's or 10's depending how I feel at the time I think. Sometimes I find a guitar may prefer one or the other itself. In general for me it's 9's are a good trade off for ease of playing and life of strings (between 8's and 10's) and 10's have a nice life span and to be honest, for me and how I play, 10's are just fine ease of playing wise too.
 
I don't think there is any difference in sound between 9's and 10's. Between 8's and 11's? Maybe, but it's a minimal factor in the overall tone equation at best.

I stick with 10's for feel. Every once in a while I try a set of 9's on one of my guitars just to be sure and they feel like wet noodles.
 
I have landed at 10-46 for 24 3/4" or even 25" scale and 9-42 for 25 1/2".
I used to use 10-46 on everything except 9-42 on strat with typical strat trem bridge.
I tried 9-42 on something besides the strat 25 1/2" and it just felt more comfortable / closer to the feel of 10-46 on 24 3/4".

I have a set of 11-52 to try on the 24 34" Epi SG Jr that i mostly play in open or sometimes drop tunings.

I dont recall any real difference in tone; it is more what feels better to me.
