By this time tomorrow I should have completed a trade deal with @DBMUSICFL and will be the proud new owner of the following somewhat oddball rarely seen
USA MADE Fender JP-90 bass.

YEP thems EMGs in thar mattey !!!

smaller lighter faster "metal" slanted(in this case) J/P from the good folks in Corona Cali. -- only made for a few years (and not tons of them from what I gather) maligned by the J/P faithful....(Fender types can be as picky or worse than GIBSON types at times) "If its not a 65 JB w/ tort guard in a perfect burst its CRAP" ..... well.... er .... no

As we all know I like quirky odd basses......... and this QUIRKED and ODDED in all the right places lol -- and I came over with the realization I was surrounded by NO ACTIVE BASSES (the horror)

SO some of my toys will go to Brett and this sleek little number will be boomin in the Doom Room tomorrow evening ;)

Ran by and saw Brett and his shop in my travels around Central Fl yesterday

dropped off some stuff and picked her up!

........ she is road worn --- ridden hard an put up wet many a night in the last 28 years-- but the "mojo" is in there.... the magic, lives.

At present she is "settling in" among the other Doom Room Boom Sticks

Fender SHAPED headstock (but thinner than a traditional Jazz bass)
body is JAZZ bass "ish" but the edges are not beveled more flat like say a Jackson Concert Bass.... but still has the same offset droop

Schaller branded tuners (lovely and work well)
necks "almost" straight (tweaking as we are speaking)
frets good
EMGS --- pure thunder (though the P.O. had them adjusted DOWN like passive pups  ) and the foam under them is dry rotted....so will be replacing that to get them UP close to the strings where they belong
the "home made" thumb rest is .........interesting.........o_O:rolleyes::eek::facepalm::blink: but works -- (bass players ...:pound-hand:)

Pickguard is a metal over plastic affair that seems very professionally done perhaps WD or other Mfct. ?? Cant find where Fender issued em with brushed Al. PG's??

there is some finish checking/cracking the camera doesnt pick up -- but again this is a "players" grade/work horse-- farm beast ....no case queen show ponies around here --- while attempting the ceremonial string change upon arrival.....(and fretboard defunk/clean/lube) I unceremoniously BROKE the edge off the nut at the G ........(DOH!) I guess 28 year old plastic nuts get fragile??? -- who knew....:(:p

So while I await a new TUSQ XL ;) nut(should be here tomorrow) --- she is having a spa day or two as I delve deeper into the secrets of the JP-90

ALl in all impression --- good bones as they say -- a tweak here and upgrade there and she will be a killer "sleeper" bass as those EMGs really BRING the boom !

more pics to come as work progresses.

Oh, man! That’s nice! You’re right, I haven’t seen one of those rascals in ages! Those Bullet basses are something else!

I’m soooooooo jelly!

Seriously, sweet boom stick! I’ve actually seen, and laid hands on one....bit of an oddball supposedly....but the one I laid hands on played pretty darned well.

after a good set up and new nut -- this thing plays as good as any peavey (BUWAHAHAHAHAH!!!) no really -- I have some peaveys that are just UNREAL in playability -- I play them after owning them for years and still go >... "its insane I paid 250.00 (or LESS!!) for a USA made bass that plays this good ..... "

The JP-90 is a weird one this one-- made WEIRDER by the EMG's and the active circuitry --- it will damn sure rattle a room and scare small dogs !
completely familiar and comfortable "J" neck -- standard "FENDER fare" -- but the body is UBER light (un JAZZBASS like) and much more modern -- Im digging its "out of left field" yumminess.

that or the old Guild PILOT bass remember those?

very similar VIBE ...Children of the same "era" late 80's early 90's ...................... for a 28 year old bass this Fender JP is no slouch --
