In my travels today I stumbled (almost quite literally) on this place
Guitar Factory
A very out of the way--- quiet little street in College Park section of Orlando--- semi up scale "burb" of Orlando --artsy types with second or third generation $$$ that spend most the day ACTING like they dont have $$$ --- you know the type.
---anyway--- in a grey ramshackle little house tucked between a "hipster" juice bar and a Papa Johns......you would NEVER guess this is a factory....
I regret I did not get more pics. The custom Guitar Factory Guitars they build are AMAZING and are owned by many "NAME" artists......the worst part was as Doug was telling me about each of them thumbing through an old photo album was the fact MANY of them are long gone. "We made one for him, he passed away 5 years ago......" and so on........
Also the interesting stories about the PEOPLE --- not the "star hype"
Like "that Jimmy Buffet is ALL business and #'s man, that beach bum stuff is just s Schtick" ANd Rick from Cheap trick told Doug ---"I want a black one leave off that fancy wood for someone who gives a poop" --- then he took over a year to PAY for the guitar --- sending 100.00 here and 150.00 there...... He said Joan Baez was a nice young lady and had pics of her guitar and how he added a pick up to it. ..........
MANY more stories where told......the house is PACKED with decaying old ORIGINAL gear......more guitar cases than I could count --- and not a single CNC machine or computer as far as the eye can see.
BUt those AE Guitar Factory guitars are AMAZING read up on the website........I will be back and I will get more pics...........
The place hasnt been cleaned in 30 years (they have been there since 1972) -- the guitars........the ones they make are AMAZING.
its a neck through chambered body with a custom bridge/tailpiece that has acoustic pups and electric --- blending the 2 ....much like say an Epiphone Ultra LEs Paul (which I owned) with 2 output jacks.....but this --- this achieves a level of acoustic the Epi could NEVER muster
Oh yes......I will make future pilgrimages back to speak with Doug.......and inhale the mahogany dust.
