I have said I would never buy another EL-84 based amp but Friedman has that amp tone well tuned. Given that the 18w Marshall was and probably still is the most duplicate DYI .

Yeah, I’ve said that a few times, myself. Still, my favorite small amp is my 18 watt Superlite-ish homebrew….
And yes, I have plenty of other tube types, kicking around here, to compare. From British EL34, to American 6L6, to a Canadian 6V6…my little 18 watter kicks some … Well, whatever… I’d love to flog a Friedman JJ Jr for a couple of weeks…I imagine this offering would be a brighter voiced version.

Dave has smokin' hot-Brit tones totally nailed. Absolutely love my PT20.
A three-way bright switch on the clean channel is - dare I say it - brilliant.

I would probably pull the trigger on it given the recent offerings and prices.
That said I have other fish to fry that has nothing to do with music gear. Lol.

I like the EL84 amps built one with a Vox AC15 EF86 channel and a Marshall channel

And, the 18 watt Marshall was a direct rip-off of a Watkins Dominator.

I have heard of the Watkins Dominator. I never seen one. They must be rare now.
I don't know about that time line but today most amps are using circuits borrowed from somewhere.

Actually, quite a nice looking amp. I have always wanted one, and was thinking of building one. I have tons of links for 18 watt world stuff, but no one is making chassis or cabinets. Someone did send me a cad program to make a cabinet on some obscure software that shows no reference points.

When I saw the Mott the Hoople reunion several years ago, Ariel Bender was playing one.
