A buddy has a 1985 Honda XL350 and the chain slider (that keeps the chain taut) is missing. Some of these are so obscure and obsolete that even worn out used ones command a high price. Needless to say we couldn't find one.

We did, however, stumble onto a scale drawing of the part:

Using an old piece of dense plastic from a discarded wheel chock, i proceeded to make one from scratch.

I first bored the mounting holes, making a 10mm reamer from a discarded tap:

Next, I traced out the profile.

Next, I custom the basic shape with a coping saw:

Shaping the hard, dense plastic with the saw:

Final shaping was done with a die grinder:

45 minutes work for an impossible to find part!@@!

My kid's 125cc pit bike had no sliders of any kind, so the chain would rub the swing arm.

I made upper and lower sliders, then adapted a John Deere lawnmower belt tensioner to keep the chain in place under all conditions...

These little bikes are notorious for throwing chains even on flat ground. Now, the chain stays put even over jumps...

Great work!! very innovative thinking!

Made a new seat, about 3" taller, but cutting a new piece of foam. Made the cover using the old one as a pattern.....in my traditional red and blsck.

I ordered all new red plastics for black..

Gonna try a sell ot, since the kids are not overly interested in it.

What's a good price for a 125 with all new Jr. Mx tires, tubes, liners, (all Kenda) chain, bushings, fresh brakes and a tune???

It's an Orion 125cc

So, anyways....I geared this bike 13Tx43T (3.15:1) to give it a little more torque starting out with an adult rider.

Then I opened up the 17mm restriction between intake and carb to 22mm.

Tires were inflated to 30 psi for the test run.

First pass was 66mph according to GPS speedometer app with a headwind

Second pass had less wind with more of a side angle and me scrunched down on top the tank.

Revved the engine to WOT and backed off just enough to hear its pitch change.

Doing the math, a 71mph top speed with 3.15:1 gears, an 18.5" inflated tire outside diameter multiplied by 336 equals about 4,000 rpm.
