While I was noodling around with one of my SG's late last night I had this realization: I am not chasing anything gear or tone wise. Nothing. I am, perhaps for the first time ever, completely happy with my sound and my gear. I GAS for nothing, I wish to modify nothing and I have all the versatility that I am looking for with my 5 guitars, single pedalboard and 2 amps (not counting any practice/too small to gig amps here).

I realize things change and we evolve so I am not saying that I will never pick up any more gear, but I can say with certainty that for at least the last 6 months I have had no interest in doing anything but exploring the possibilities of the stuff I currently have.

Welcome, Tone Brother!!!!

I have a VH Double Neck, Gibson SG and Gibson Les Paul. No plans to have anything else.

Each has a purpose, yet all feel identical, which is a prime concern for me. The double neck is used in 12 string passages, or for stage presence, the S-G is always tuned standard and the Les Paul is always tuned E-flat.

Amp wise I have the 1997 Marshall Valvestate VS265, the DSL40C and the Blackstar ID-CORE 100 watt.

I get great sound from all three. I favor the VS265 for its metal tone and tough construction (virtually tubeless) and the Blackstar is, by far, the best recording amp.

I've recently played through Katana's, Roland's, Mesa's and found nothing lacking in my current tone.

In fact, I feel like I sound better now than ever....just need to become a better, more musically educated guitarist.

Yeah, admittedly I have variations on a theme going on here:
5 Gibsons ('79 LPC, '16 LP Trad, '81 SG Dlx, '17 SG Std, '16 Firebird) and 2 Mesas (Mark 5:25, Mini Recto, a bunch of cabs) but the guitars all sound and feel different and the amps do very different things, so I am just happy to explore what I got.

Nah, man I'm pretty f'ckn far from ok
err, content. Still learning, always will be I suppose, started late in life, etc.

That's good equipment...nothing else needed.

After 30 years of guitar playing I could be better than I am now so you say I'm not that content with myself but I still have fun playing because it brings joy when strumming a fine instrument.

This latest band venture is very pleasant. We all want the same thing. We like the environment, we are writing good songs and its just a great thing to be connected with.

I will never be content with my skill level, but I'm happy in this group.

I haven't been in a group in ages but I reconnected with an old friend whom I've played in a band with back in the early 1990's. He's already in a band now but I hope I can get a few jam sessions with him for old time's sake. I guess you can say you play better when jamming with other fellow musicians and it keeps you on top of your game.

I wouldn't say that I was content with my sound. But I am more focused about what I want in the tone department. When dust settles I still sound like me though. I like playing guitar. It makes me happy. I guess that's all that really matters.

I am pleased with my guitars but a Rickenbacker 360 and a nice SG would put a fresh head on it.
I make my own problems by way of mods I see on YouTube. My Fender Hot Rod Deluxe is fine and I should read the instruction book and leave it alone. It stead of building guitars I don't want or need I should put my Silkyn back togeather. The body of my 1968 Strat is laying on the floor and the neck keeps falling on my toes. I put myself in a bad position and I have junk coming in every day for a project. What project, I should write things down. Yes I am happy and wouldn't have it any other way.

No wonder that you're happy with your gear!

SG/LP & a Messa and/or Marshall has to be close to perfection.
