If you want to get mad, just look through here.
See what we lost, and wonder why anyone would wantonly delete this.
A lot of the aulde site remains, but all the pictures are gone.
Does anybody really know how to restore this, or put this to use?
Does anybody really care?

I don't know if the same thing happened to MLP, or if that site
even had archives like ETSG did.
This represents a lot of work, as you 'puta genii know.
I'd consider it a labor of love, since I don't know how well it paid.
Happy labor day, all you lot.

Was the original archive lost when Alex took over, or when he changed the forum software from vBulletin to XenForo? As I remember, the software change killed the archive, though I could be wrong.

Anyway, I do see some images are there, but not others. However, this archive is created by The Wayback Machine. It is not the actual ETSG archive. The Wayback Machine attempts to archive websites as snapshots in time by means of various bots and algorithms called "spiders" and there may be weeks or even years between the updates to the archive. The Wayback Machine attempts to capture native webpage content (such as the HTML coding) and external content, such as images. However, content that is not actually part of the webpage, such as images, cannot always be captured and stored. There are various reasons for this. Suffice it to say, images cannot be restored directly to this archive by any of us. The images would actually have to be put back where they were and the next time the Wayback Machine tries to update the ETSG archive, it may be able to get them on the next go around. Even then, it may not be successful, as websites can be built with certain restrictions limiting what kind of content can be retrieved by spiders. Theoretically, Alex could attempt to store the content directly to the Wayback Machine for archiving, but he would still have to have the content himself, or rebuild it.

That's a helluva explanation. I didn't know that these types of shenanigans are going on while I'm trying to wake up the next day. Creepy spiders... :ohno:

As far as Mr. Alex is concerned: I don't know what to make of that guy. He seemed kind of unresponsive and aloof to certain suggestions that ETSG members were hoping for. Yet, Mr. Alex was quick to implement algorithms that boycots direct links to this forum. Very childish, IMO.

Nothing more childish than the inherent theme at ETSG...

"So, where were the spiders?
While the fly tried to break our balls?"

I'm aware of this plethora of information, how to copy it and how to post it. What I do not have is the time to put humpty dumpty back together again.

BlackSG says not to bring up ETSG but I really liked how it was especially since if like I did, purchased my first SG and wham I look up 1987 3 Knob SG Special. The internet pulls up a number of things, one being ETSG where I click and sign up and get warmly greeted by COL Mustard and soon afterwards find that place he posted above that has a zillion tidbits and pics and details about my 87 and catalogs and all manner of good reading for all sorts of models. Like Col says, "See what we lost.... wonder why anyone would wantonly delete this....?

This is what truly draws me to the web in the first place. REAL nuts and bolts INFO.

SO I tried to pull up a few catalogs just for ships and jigglers. No DICE. I hate it so much, grrrrr

Who cares about ETSG! We have this fine forum here and ETSG is passe. I wish people would stop bringing it up.:(

Sorry black, I couldn't resist. Check out my backhanded compliment to the guy who runs that other site.

Hey I have a novel idea. How bout restoring our SG resources and historical data, catalogs and literature like we once had?

Now I know I will likely get a banned but for those who were here long enough, it is a serious sore spot, especially since I thought we were told it would be fixed a long time ago.

It can be done but the effort and determination is quite an issue. Sometimes I get all the pics of each example and after copyin 2 lose the connection/ability to do so . The text seems easier and I was considering/hoping to locate archived gibbo's pics of each example suitable to be up to the level that was there in the first place! It's a hit and miss so far. The early case thing took over 2 years to get together. I'd really like to try. It somehow can be done. Problem is my area of expertise is ones from 60 to 69 after the 69's I relied on the other members expertise

AC 30 I am glad to see you on, bro. I still miss those awesome pics of you in a sea of Vox's

**** How bad do you think A&^X is gonna react when he reads my request over THERE?
