ENGL Fireball 25

Does anybody here have one of these or played one? I'm thinking about trying one. I won't be able to try before I buy so I'm looking for firsthand opinions.

I get the vibe from vids I've seen that it's very METAL orientated. If you're into that vibe I think it's pretty proven winner.

Yes, it's a high gain amp. I was planning to get a EVH III Stealth to replace my EL34 5150 (for several reasons I won't get into here) when I started looking at other options. The Fireball came on my radar and I'm considering it, but I was hoping to get some opinions first. I believe @Headache has one, I was hoping he would chime in and I didn't know if maybe there are others here that have experience with them.

Reviews are overall favorable, you can buy a new one for about $1300 and a used one for about $1000.

They do get good reviews, but I've watched every demo I could find and I just can't tell by the demos how it actually sounds. In all the demos I've watched the highs seem really thin and bright. I just can't believe if that is really the case that they would get so much love.

My main concern is that it might be too modern gain for my tastes.

IIRC he has a full sized Engl…100, or 50, watt.
He has a mini 6505…amongst other things.
He has the 60 watt Fireball. I looked him up on Youtube after I said that and found a few demos he did. In his demos it sounds better than the others I've listened to. Here are a couple, there's a few more on his youtube channel, but these 2 are probably the best ones...

I have not tried this specific amp but every Engl I have played through was a beast. I hear they are really reliable but don't have first-hand experience, but a buddy of mine gigged the hell out of one and zero complaints.

Edit: I don't know what model he had but it was one of the big suckers. He used it along with a Bogner something-or-other. Crushing tone.
