Dumbest car conversations you've had?

As a bit of a gear head myself when I go out to the bar I always like to ask older guys about cool cars they've had in the past. Tonight I did that and guy tells me about his 1973 Nova SS 350 which ran a 11.2 quarter mile on motor back in 1979 mostly because it had a "police interceptor" carburetor. I just nodded my head lmao.
 
I have a 77 Vette with the baseline 350….. 180 screaming HP. It’s so slow that I’m not so sure my 07 Civic with 140hp wouldn’t give it a run for its money. Do the math. HP to weight is about the same.

PS: the stock Qjet on the Vette was replaced with a Holley. I suppose that makes it a race car.

Cool Vette, great for cruisin! It's funny; I own a '78 Eldorado with a 425 big block and as pathetic as 180hp sounds, it was the same as a base non-L82 Vette back then lol...

Not exactly a dumb conversation…. Just what a 350 Nova SS running 11.2’s made me think of. Trying to think what kinda HP and gears that would take.

Yep. Baseline engine was the L48. Which is what’s in mine. The “hot rod” was the L82 @ 200 something.

On motor; built 383 stroker with aluminum heads and 11-1 compression around 500hp, built th350 with a stall converter, maybe 3.73 gears with a 9" Ford.
 
And I was guessing maybe 500hp but was figuring more a 4.11 rear. But then. I’ve never owned or driving anything with serious HP so literally. Anything I come up with is no more than an educated guess.
 
That 83 GT, my gosh, i home ported the d8 heads. They have a huge thermactor bump in the exhaust port. Took me 2 weeks to grind them to match gaskets. Look at all this smog crap that was on the motor. No way bring exhaust back in a non turbo engine is good for anything but making twice the smog & killing HP & MPG

But to answer your original question. For sure I’ve had some pretty strange conversations when it comes to cars. Some not dissimilar to yours. I just can’t think of any right now. But they usually stemmed around how fast their car was from the factory. And like this Nova…… Way faster than any stock factory machine tested by numerous magazines.

I‘m actually surprised I’m mostly upright as my eyes are pleading with me to go to bed.
