Since I got back some dexterity in my hands after that stroke stupidity, I was getting stuff to replace sold stuff. Now I have two amps (3 with a small Harmony). Four guitars. And a bucket full of pedals. I was falling into that old trap. You know exactly what I mean too. The "Hey! I got some dough, let's go buy stuff!" trap. But then I stopped and thought. Do I really honestly NEED anything else to play (besides more skills)?? Of course not!

So I'm not going to make a run to the Guitar Center for anything. Not looking for stuff on the internet. Nope, I was on my gorgeous LP Custom flametop with a hot distortion pedal pumping into a single 12" amp at damaging dB going nuts in true fashion of lunatics of early metal. It was glorious! Who needs more than that?:victoire:

I just like playing with different gear most of the the time.

All sounds good to me. Finding that one or two guitars that you just luv to groove on is a great thing. Of course, having a warehouse full of guitars isn't too shabby either...

That last comment describes my pedal problem. I have way more than I use. I love to buy/collect them. Sometimes, I've gone cheap or used. I have to stop. I've been looking at the Rusty Fuzz. Extreme fuzz and very cheap, although it may not be for me. I have a fuzz fetish, can't have enough.

YOu go Wade.
I have vowed to not BUY any guitars for thirty days starting 5/1/17 -- so -- I am on the "wagon" with ya

(now I didnt say no trades--- or donations so Robert -- you can STILL SEND THE DAMN SG!!!)

Oh and RVA I need something legal written up so when Robert records my new Anthem he wote I get royalties for life........

I'm sure my not wanting to obtain tons of gear goes against most of the populous but this old fuddy-duddy is content. Oh sure, I was looking at another distortion pedal, but no, I don't need it. I've got 3 now. It would be foolish for me to buy another. Thus making better use of the gear I've got makes more sense. At least to me.:coffee:

Y'all laugh if ya want, but I've kicked the habit. Even the Borg can't get to me. I'm not going to be searching for more stuff. Got all I need to whail like a madman creating sonic bombasts!:hide:

You got that damn right!

Man, the more I gig, the less I need.

Seriously, gear is something that depends on your needs. And not in a subjective way.

I really needed a pedal that could beef up a strat, without me having to mess up the pickups: the RAT Wade (our friend Walks Backward) gave me one. I beefed up my strats. I don't feel that I need anything anymore, seriously!

My SG ? It don't need nothing, man!

Amp? Two. One solid state, small and compact, and one with valves.

Oh, I got a line filter too :D

Last week I spent over an hour wandering around in the Carle Place Guitar Center.
Then I said to my self. "Self, There's absolutely nothing here that you want.".
So I left and went down the road to Sam Ash. (They are always near each other.).
After looking at all their stuff for an hour (basically the same stuff) I said to myself......

I don't really NEED 9 guitars and however many amplifiers etc.
Nothing comes in the door anymore unless something leaves.
(In fact, I have sold some stuff and not replaced it with anything.)

The blonde Guild Starfire III is gone.
The Ovation (serial # 0089) is gone.
The Roland JC 77 is gone.
The Tech21 Trademark 60 and Trademark 30 LE are gone.
The Crate GFX 40 is gone.
One of the Crown power amps is gone along with 3 wedges.

(All sold locally. I don't ship big stuff.
Anything little will be listed here first.)

Go get em Sérgio! You are on fire little brother!

Tony's got it rolling in the right direction. Minimalist approach is actually better as it causes one to focus upon things that count. Like your skills. Too many decisions leads to confusion and hesitation. By keeping it simple you free yourself from the masses of stuff and sharpen your ability.

How many times you set up a distortion pedal only to find it sounds like the one next to it? We've got basically four (4) sounds. Think about it. Clean. Clean with modulation. Overdrive. And overdrive with modulation. That's it. Now some of you are going to make a fuss about how you"need" 20 pedals to create "your sound" but in reality you're kidding yourself. That's simply being a gear hog. 25 or more guitars and almost as many amps? Please.. That's called a "collector". Just like stamps. You don't lick your stamp collection and use it to send birthday cards to family. No. You hoard your stuff and seldom do anything but dust and admire your passion for accumulation.

Nope. Minimalism is the way to being better at your choice of activity. As a cop I carried and trained with one sidearm. I shot nearly everyday. When placed in situations where that skill was instantly needed it was there. Another weapon with less training wouldn't have been as effective. The same goes for instruments. The concert violinist ownes and plays one violin. That one is the way to being better at their trade.

Ok. You may now open fire with your "need" of tons of gear but remember, B.B. travelled with one Lucille and had the promoter provide the Twin to play through. Now that's minimalism at its best.
