Dog had a seizure

The big girl, Billie, had a seizure this morning at 6:00 am. She had them 4 years ago, been on meds since then. Rough way to wake up. I know the blood levels of the seizure drug are a bit low but we decided to keep it as such since she didn’t have any seizures. But I think we are going to up the dose. Don’t want to go through what she had before, 5 seizures, one every 4 hours. She is going on 14 years old

What type of meds do you use? One of our two cats has seizures . The first one, about a year ago scared the crap out of us and him. Now, we have a beach blanket on each floor, so I can can cover him, with his head sticking out , and just hold him until the spasms stops. Then it takes a minute or two for him to "recover" and be himself. He has around one every month.

Poor baby. We had a Beagle years ago while the kids were growing up. Pretty cool dog. Great instincts, but wasn’t the sharpest tack in the drawer. Like many dogs she had some hip issues as she got older…. But she also started having seizures like your girl. Sucks. Hoping changing med dosage does the trick.

Aww, that’s a shame. We had a Scotty that developed seizures when she got on in dog years.

One of our cats started having seizures, and found out because he developed diabetes. His ketones were so low, his blood was acidic. He had to have a transfusion and lots of fluids to balance the ketones, then he was put on insulin. Unfortunately he never rectified his blood sugar issues. We have friends whose cats were diabetic but after a couple of years of diet regulation were able to recover and never need insulin again.

George did live several years after his diagnosis, but ended up having other issues and passed away last year. He was a very sweet cat.
