Didn't quite get the record today...

Hi temp in Las Vegas, 117. Ties the previous all time high. Another shot to break it tomorrow. Champagne bottles remain unpopped until 118. RH at 3% as well. Encourages desert fret bloom.

i seen on the local news up here it was so hot some of the planes were not flying cause the heat was so bad.Messes with the way they fly or something they said.To darn hot.

I have some photos of 136°F (unofficial via outside temp on vehicle) near Thermal Raceway in Thermal, California back in 2015...

A few more years of environmental "footprints" and that record will shatter!

Death Valley, Calif. now holds the record for the hottest temperature ever recorded in the world with a maximum temperature of 134 degrees. This temperature was not recorded this past summer, but nearly 100 years ago on July 10, 1913.

This was Oman one May a couple of years ago. This is without the benefit of greenhouse effect in a car.

That's 118F in the shade. In fact, the sign briefly showed the true temperature - 129F (54C). In normal use the signs will never show more than 48C, because above that, outdoor workers are allowed to stop and seek shelter.

I was gonna mention my couple of years working in Oman, but you beat me to it... & yeah, the workers, mostly Pakistani, work in amazing heat.

The winter (I only managed one!) in Ulaan Bataar had similar numbers with an extra sign in front.

Did you ever have the Sunday lunch buffet at the Crowne Plaza, Qurom beach? I used to love it there; pork roast and three Guinness for about 15 rials or so...

I did, and it was great. This was actually a holiday, not work. We stayed just down the beach at the Al Bustan Palace, and somehow we all got upgraded to Lagoon rooms. That was great - Just open the room French window and slide into the pool.

^ yeah, Omanis are very friendly, and very very chatty. I worked in Oman for two years and enjoyed it.

Very nice, glad you enjoyed your trip.

Oman is a nice place, often overlooked but great to visit.

I worked there too - designed a TV network for them. It was paid for by Gulf Air and it took me a year. Obviously as they were paying I stayed at the Gulf Hotel.

I worked in broadcasting for years before giving up on the insanity and moving to Outer Mongolia. The ME was interesting back then, developing all the TV networks at a fast pace with all the 'user manuals' in paper bags required to get the deals/job done. On the commercial side the Arabs were very difficult to deal with, so I had an Egyptian guy who took 5% of everything and did all the hard work for me around the ME while I relaxed in Cairo (mostly working with JVC and Sony to get the big jobs done). :D

The Egyptians are the technical guys in the Gulf, the Lebanese the entrepreneurs. The local Arabs input is mostly "make it happen". I used Sony for all the control room gear. It was happening just as analogue was giving way to digital, and half the incoming feeds were atrocious quality analogue from Arabsat. Lots of arguments about how best to combine the technologies. Mr. Money wanted to carry both digital and analogue, I wanted everything digitised. Fortunately I won, and as each incoming channel went digital it was trivial to add it into the multiplex.

So, I have you to thank for the Premier League football and F1 while sitting in the middle of the desert eating dates; fine work, and thanks you.
