Destroying Steven Tyler:

Ooooh, not sure I’m with you on this one. ST has pipes easily the equal to RJD, IMO, and is a more nuanced songwriter. I love them both but they do dfferent things and to me , as much as I love and respect Dio, his voice is the wrong tool for the job on this song.

Special demerit for the out-of-place wanking metal guitar.

Kind of expect sonic lunacy from Yngwie

perhaps because I grew up with the original--- and ST has, as has Aerosmith always been a favorite of mine (RJD was well liked but not a "favorite") I hear a "sweet emotion" in the original--- that typically only the WRITER of a song can imbue to it --- not to say some singer can not tkae a song a really KICK IT FULL of emotion and make you BELIEVE it---

I hear "cover tune" all over the RJD version......

sorta like this ..................

“Destroys” Steven Tyler?

Sorry, can’t go there with you.

RJD is a great vocalist in his genre, to be sure. No question about it. He has great range and power.

I certainly am not an RJD expert, but every time I do hear him, though, I feel like I’ve heard the same vocal before.

It may be because Dio’s chosen genre has him sort of pigeon-holed to one sound, but Tyler’s voice seems more versatile.

Certainly doesn’t “destroy” Steven Tyler.

Just an opinion and you shouldn't feel as you have to go anywhere, I just listed to the Aerosmith version for the first time ever - after hearing Dio's version - and I much prefer Ronnie's work. To me, I can find nothing of interest in Tyler's vocals, although he has great talent as a writer and a showman. As I have said before, Tyler's frequency so repulses me that I change the station the minute I recognize him. Dio is the all time heavy metal singer IMHO.

In a similar related story... I've seen Black Sabbath perform with Ozzy and RJD. On the live Sabbath music that was written with Dio, the performances were everything I could have hoped for. A soon as Dio performed any Sabbath/Ozzy stuff, it would sound too cheezy. BTW, also saw Dio with Blackmore's Rainbow.... Oh yes... :dood:
