I had the surgery.
Ring finger left hand was not bending at the first joint and
forcing it would lock it up in the bent position (PAIN!!!)
I put it off for 10 years as it slowly got worse and worse.
(If they screw this up I will be selling guitars.)
Saw a doctor when I could no longer play an open G chord.
(Nothing to lose at that point.)
He explained the mechanics of the operation to me.
I thanked him and said I would schedule it.
He said, "Want me to do it now? It will take about 5 minutes."
He shot a local anesthetic into my hand.
I didn't watch but felt a little bit of tugging but zero pain.
When he was done with the last of 5 stiches he looked at his watch.
It took 4 minutes and 35 seconds.
I had it done on Thursday.
I picked up a guitar on Friday.
I played a gig the following Tuesday, G chords and all.
I lucked into the right doctor I guess.
