D minor backing track challenge

Here is a backing track I created then the track with my lead. The challenge is to download the backing track and play your lead to it then post it here. It is a .wav file. If you need something different let me know. This is not a contest. I enjoy how different players interpret the music differently. It is a simple Dm C over and over. If it gets too boring feel free to trim it down a bit. I tried to do mine in one take and it shows, Hit a few wrong notes and got lost :)

I like what you are doing here. Might I make a suggestion???

The Dm /C progression is good, but the repetitive nature of it doesn't lend itself to a lot of feeling when it comes to soloing. For example, imagine how a person would sound if they never changed the tone of their voice.

Keeping the same backing drum tracks and time signature, perhaps experiment with a Dm/G/G/Dm/Am/G/Dm/A7 to give your track a more interesting feel and provide a more dynamic palette for painting solos???

I agree 100%. I wanted to keep it simple to try and make it easy for players of all levels. I’ll make another one maybe with a middle section that is a little more complicated. I like backing tracks that have an A and a B section, something like an A B A B A pattern.

Finally got to listen to each submission here…. So far. First let me say…. Y’all are awesome. My initial feeling when I listened to Kerry’s backing track was a touch of Pink Floyd. Ramo solidified that thought with his addition. Robert…. Can’t put a finger on it other than, it’s you. It’s what you do. Just crank out good vibes when you play.

Thanks, Man...i always tell people about my style...if you can't be great, at least be original!!!!!

That is some of the best advice about playing music or any art form that I've heard. Be yourself!
Years ago I heard/read advise given by someone way smarter than me. The short story is…. Stop trying to play the song like Pete/Jimmy/Alex/Etc…. Because you never will. You can only play like you. I’d been working on a tune for a very long time. Could not get thru it without screwing up. Get frustrated and quit. After that advice, picked up the guitar and proceeded to play the song bumper to bumper. It was one mistake after another. But I soldiered ahead and didn’t stop till the end. It was actually an emotional experience. Guess what. Still can’t play that stupid song mistake free…. But I play it good enough now my bride knows what song I’m playing. Oh yeah…. And I still don’t sound like Pete. :pound-hand:

I've been able to replicate tones precisely, for example, I can nail the guitars in Def Leppard's 'Mirror Mirror' precisely, so yes, with attention to detail, you can dial in the same sound as any recording or artist if you can also mimic the playing style...

Fil 'SoloDallas' Oliveri is a friend of mine and he and his mate can nail AC/DC's tone and picking style perfectly, but it takes a lot of time and effort to perfect the technique.

I try to sound like me because it's a lot less work...

You and I have had this conversation before. In my mind, if you’re covering a song it’s okey dokey to insert your style. But if you’re doing a tribute band…. Ya better sound exactly like the guys you’re tributing.

I know I am in a thread that is a couple of months old ,, but how come I can’t hear Robert’s or Ramo’s contribution ??
