Covering holes - Aria Pro II Bass.

As most of you know, a couple of years back I bought an old "Punk Bass" (Thanks, Col.!) ;), a 1987 Aria Pro II P/J.
The previous owner had drilled a couple of extra holes, added a kill switch and a pickup selector.

Now I like my basses (any guitar really...) to be fairly simple to operate. I'm not a good guitarist or bassist, so the less crap I now have to contend with, the better.

I know that in the past I've been big on modding some of my gear, but I think the time has come to go back to the KISS principle. (Keep It Simple, Stupid!)

Anyway, there were two unsightly holes left after I removed the kill switch and pup selectors, and I wasn't sure what to do. Whether it was filling them with bondo, putting a sticker over them... Decisions, decisions...

I was in my shed, and found a roll of "carbon fibre" look stick on vinyl that I had bought a few years ago for another project, and figured I'd try and make a stick on "cover" to cover the holes, and make it look like a cavity cover.

I have to smooth out where the pots come through, and maybe make some final adjustments to the shape, but I'm fairly happy with it... It's by no means perfect, but I think I can make it look reasonable. Opinions???

Maybe eventually I'll make a plate from some black acrylic I have, but I think for now, this will do.

Looks great! It's a very creative solution. Any changes to shape or material of the cover would make for a minor change. With the KISS principal, you can leave it as is.

Nope. Just a vinyl sticker. It came in a roll of about 4'x4'. I think it was about $30 from eBay. I believe it's used by car enthusiasts to cover parts and make them look like carbon fibre.
