The Mesa 35 has extremely touchy volume controls, sort of like the Marshall 2203/2204 series. Can't set to 35 watts from 25, just too touchy for our space.
I finally tried a 12AU7 today inbthe PI. Miles better! What a great, ballsy, high gain little grab n go. Have a bunch of old Hammond (I believe GE ) 12AU7 I pilfered from an old Hammond F100 years ago. Nice.
Also managed to get in a rehearsal for first time in almost 2 yrs with my Whiplash cover band. Was in the drummer's garage so I took the Triple Crown 100 with just a 1x12. I want to use that amp at the labour day huge show we have.
Sounded exactly like I wanted! Punchy, gainy, full channel 2, screaming channel 3. I will use it with my new Mojotone Slammins angled 2x12 cab that I have to photograph still.
