Just a check -- as from the news reports this side of the country it seems the ENTIRE STATE of California is on fire at the moment---

ANy of our West Coast Brothers in Harms way???
 
A friends daughter lost her home in the town of Paradise in the fire up north. Two of my wive’s girlfriend families are evacuated in the fire down south.

Same scenario last year at this time.
As far as destruction of lives and property, this fire season is worse. Compound the situation with yet another season of no-rain, this has become a brutal time for a lot of Californians.

Since I live along the coast between L.A. and San Francisco, we are far removed from the heavily dry wooded areas. But sunrise and sunsets have taken on a different and beautiful color pallete... How ironic, huh?

My oldest daughter lives in Venice (California), which is about 30 to 40 minutes from the Woolsey Fire. She text me yesterday on how the next-door city of Santa Monica was a thick fog of fire-smoke and ashes. I told her get away from the smoke... it's unhealthy (Duh!). She replies: "Where the heck do I go?" And in my infinite wisdom I said: "Move to Idaho!" I guess it wasn't funny, but I was trying to make a point.

CAL FIRE released a Statewide summary of fires burning across California Sunday morning.

Three large fires are impacting more than 224,000 people across the state. Here are a look at the numbers:

Camp Fire, Butte County

  • Paradise
  • 109,000 acres
  • 25% contained
  • 23 fatalities
  • 6,713 structures destroyed, making it the most destructive fire in California History
Woolsey fire, Ventura County

  • South of Simi Valley
  • 83,275 acres
  • 10% contained
  • Two fatalities
  • Unknown structure loss, last estimated at 15o but expected to grow
Hill Fire

  • Santa Rosa Valley
  • 4,531 acres
  • 70% contained
  • No fatalities
  • Two structures destroyed
  • Repopulation began Saturday night but evacuations are still in effect
More than 8,000 firefighters from across the state are stationed at the fires. Decreased wind allowed them to reinforce containment lines Saturday night but many are preparing for warm and dry conditions and Santa Ana winds to add to increased fire danger.
 
From my office window in Torrance I have a pretty incredible view all the way up the coast, with unobstructed views of the Santa Monica mountains (I can basically see the entire LA basin from up here, including downtown/Hollywood/etc). I can make out the locations of the fires clearly and have been watching from here. Right now it looks almost normal but the news is saying the Santa Anas are going to be kicking up again later, so I expect by the end of the day I will be looking at a huge plume of smoke again.
