2025 just keeps on taking and taking. Mastodon is one of my favorite modern bands , they carried the torch for the new wave of american metal and made progressive riffs and concept albums cool again , and brent was a major factor in that he brought his own brand of structured chaos to the group.
Gone too soon R.I.P.
"Gave me a smile, gave me a whisper
Lay me down in linens to watch me sleep
I played the fool
I played the sinner
I played the part of me that no one wanted to see."

Fukk, man.

I met Brent a few times.
Hung out with the band.
Played guitar with Bill.

I am shocked, yet at the same time, in the back of my mind.....I had a feeling something might happen to him after his exit from the band.

I wish I was wrong.

Brent: may you rest well buddy.
Thank you for everything man.
See you on the other side.

Where have you been? We could only speculate as to your whereabouts.

I was still trying to get over Ozzy too.

And now this. I'm gutted. I considered these guys friends. Wasn't terribly happy about Brent leaving, but I always knew that if anyone had to, it would have been him.

He seemed to be struggling to deal with it on his social media recently, and I was afraid that something might happen.

The man had some issues, but don't we all.

That was one that got my attention, in a very positive way, a couple years back!
You could take the banjo away from him, but you couldn't take it out of him.

He really was a one of a kind and completely unique in that regard, and though he was most known for his metal contributions, the guy was a really prolific musician aside from Mastodon.

Some of his other bands include:
Fiend Without a Face
West End Motel
Giraffe Tongue Orchestra
Legend of the Seagullmen

And then these guys have to soldier on. This might have been one of the toughest shows they've had to do.

I can hear Brann here having trouble holding it together....he's got a shake in his voice here.

I don't think any of them ever thought that Brent wouldn't eventually come home. I think they figured he needed some time off to....get sober, probably,...and when he got himself straightened out, he'd be back. That was, I think, what we all kinda thought too.

It wasn't supposed to end this way.
