Bird Baths:

Who has a bird bath that is good for high winds???
I have one, I think it was cast from cement. It was originally owned by a neighbor. When he passed about 40 years ago he willed it to our family and now it sits in my mother's backyard as a decorative pedestal planter. I remember painting it when I was a young boy.

The house next to me turned into a rental recently. They cut the cherry tree down that generations of birds would come every year. I enjoyed that & then they cut the 4 butterfly bushes that were 25 years old..in 1 year it became desolate,, It was the focal point of the yard..now dead open space of nothing. solution in March am planting trees that grow 20 ft high aeround my whole property with barb wire stretched between. Then plant my own cherry tree & butterfly bushes lol

I don't have bird bath, per se. But, I do have a two-tiered fountain. It is made from concrete and isn't going anywhere in the wind. It is rather heavy on it's own and holds quite a bit of water.

We have several bird feeders in the back yard and birds really use this a lot for drinking. Of course, it isn't as shallow as an actual bird bath, but several birds will actually go into the upper basin and use it like a bird bath. They kind of scoot along the top of the water like a duck!

There is a small water pump in it that is powered by a small solar panel with a rechargeable battery. The solar panel has a perimeter that is actually smaller than a sheet of notebook paper. I have the solar panel with its battery off to the side next to the house. The power cable (carrying only about 6 - 9 VDC) is buried a couple inches underground leading to the fountain.

We get A LOT of different species of birds with the different types of feeders in the yard. Since we have some birds that are migratory, it's interesting to see the different birds that show up for part of the year and then will be gone a few months later.
