Battery Replacement On A Smart Phone

I was going to attempt on my iPhone 6. Watched a video and felt it was doable. Even ordered the “kit” to do it. Then realized I’d ordered one for a 6 and not a 6S…… which for some odd reason are different batteries. Rewatched video for a 6S and steps were way different. I viewed it as a voice from God saying…. “Don’t do it.” So I didn’t.

Current phone is a 13 and sealed and mostly water proof…. Which by the way works. My wife’s went the the washing machine months ago. Still works fine.

But bottom line. No way I’m gonna attempt a battery swap on any of the newer phone. Way too much to go wrong.

It's not that involved really. 14 minute video from start to stop, I suspect never having done it likely takes more like 45 mins.
I did change the LCD screen out on my old S5 in order to access all my info. Sweated doing it but not difficult.
There really isn't much in a cell phone.

I did a replacement battery a few years ago on my wife’s iPhone 7. Bought the kit with the tools. Was rather simple but that first pry was, oh :poo: if it cracks. Worked fine for a few years and then traded it in for a 15 pro. I think we got $5 for it.

I kept the old S5 for a music player while cutting the lawn plus as the monitor mixer app for shows so I don't have to use my regular phone.

Changed the battery on my iPhone 5s when I bought my 8s. Kit from Amazon, no major issue, might have been a little hard to pull the glass off, but other than that it was ok.

I use my old 6S as a juke box. Data is shut off but browsing still works via WiFi, so many time I use it for streaming rather than my current phone.

I think the older phones may have been easier to pull apart… but once they started making them more water proof the seal can be a problem. At least what I’ve seen in the videos.

Kudos for you guys that changed the batteries in your phones. When it comes to that point for me, Ill take it to someone or just buy another phone.

I’m with ya on this one Norm. I like to do stuff like this if for no other reason than to prove I can. However, a phone battery just isn’t one of them. :run:

Edit: and frankly why? Most carriers today are taking in your old phones on trade and giving you a new one for free. I had an iPhone 11 that I destroyed the screen on. I got 100% credit on a new IPhone 13.

Used to be able to just take the back off and put in new battery.Ive never even tried to replace a battery in the new ones. Im with ya on this one Iblive.I went from a Galaxy S10 to a S24.
