Hey not the age old debate between tubes & all that. Just an observation. As i assemble a more "modern" bass rig that can be anything. Will have various cabs for dif venues. Have been exploring separate power amp because the Tech 21 SansAmp pedal has everything i need basically tone wise.

But, i did notice no way am i gonna use Class D for power..yeah Its light but man its slow & its not the immediate power for Drop Tune or 5 string bass. Thought i could do it but did not hear or feel anything enjoyable as a response.

I guess in the long run for me its only Ampeg HLF 410 cab(swear by them for low E fundamental on down to drop A) Only cab that you dont have to EQ shelf..just hit & hit it hard.

Its heavy but actually, you just wheel em up to the jeep & tilt & roll right into the gig.

I guess it will be SVT Pro again or similar. That killer gear is very reasonable right now used.

Practicing at home,. Have cheapy Harbinginer PA amp 60 watt into Ampeg SVT av cab & its not even able to be turned up the whole way & and yep just blew out the other part of my hearing range that the guitar work hasn't done recently.

Going to trade off whatever is required to make a final rig.

I had the same experience with guitar so I can guess it would splat out bad with bass. I bought one of those little Soldano mini heads but ended up selling it because the Class-D power amp just did not deliver the goods - as you say, slow and no balls at volume. Noisy too.

Here is an interesting one. can get Ampeg v4b local right now. I wonder & lets think this out. They def do the SVT grind at way lower volume. But will it do my down tune like a more modern SS,

or maybe i can just be me & enjoy the rounded drop tune bass sound vs always trying to be right there. In original music , the beauty is anything out of normal makes unique music more so than copy & paste bands.

Wiill that 100 watts get it done & remember how much amp is used in those B's & C's thumping every 3rd down beat lol

The me thinks 100 watts with SVT grind could be the exact level for usage. Dime it & ride the volume just like i do with guitar amps. Few character pedals & let the tube cooking fullness just be in your face ready to go. Who knows- probably end up with bunch of rigs anyways ..

My load out is right out my front door & into Jeep so weight is never an issue to me.
