In another thread about robots, I mentioned that I will be incorporating a new Android computer head unit in my car. I spent Saturday tearing my dash apart in preparation for the conversion. One of the heater controls had a broken shaft so I had to disassemble the complete AC unit to replace the shaft, sorry no pics of that. Here is what the inside of my car looked like on Sunday morning (Father's Day). The old panel with the AC and gauges is on the floor. It's all back together now, that's what I did for fathers day. I'll take a picture of that and put it up when it is available.

What is the new Android stuff going to do?

Navigation, phone, radio, MP3 player, video player, tire pressure, revers cam, 2 cam DVR, internet, OBD2 sensor display. Pretty much everything the new cars do on their touch screen systems + much more. It's basically a computer that plays music and video too. I have replaced my old analog gauge cluster with all new digital display.

Navigation, Power Commitments Management, Evasive Countermeasures, Threat Assesement, Music Selection (DJ)

Nice. Are you doing this the hard way at Android level, or are you digging down to the Linux?

Here is what the car looked like while I was still working on it yesterday. New Andriod head unit wired up, still has the protective clear film on the screen so I don't scratch it while installing it. AC controls moved to the lower section. I had to disassemble the AC controls to replace a broken shaft. Saturday taking everything apart, Sunday putting it back together. today drove it to work.

New motor has just over 600 miles on it. I'm gonna replace the break in oil at 1200 miles. So far, so good. Engine runs sweet. Just got it back from the paint shop getting a make over. I'm doing internal surgery adding onboard nav system. It's gonna be like a new car for 1/4 the price.
