It has been a couple/few crazy days, of late. Dismantled the studio/home theater area to improve seating, and improve the bass practice rig.

The Ampeg Micro CL stack came last night(lower left), and it seems to be exactly what I was looking for… A simple, decent sounding, small footprint, armchair beast. This little monster can push some air with its little 2x10 cab sitting under the solid state 100 watt head. Takes pedals well. I caught myself pushing over 110dB on the meter display(about 3 meters away) across the room, last night. It sounds pretty good, so far, and is way less difficult to get myself to actually play with. I chose the CL for a couple of reasons; I wanted an actual “solid state” practice amp not “class D”…I have one of those, and….turns out…I just don’t like it much for casual practice levels. I wanted to try out the 2x10 on top of my 2x15, to see if I liked the combination(haven’t gotten around to that yet). I have read some not so enthusiastic stuff about it over at that giant bass forum, but it mostly seemed like they wanted to get more from it than it was made for. @BFT Gibson has the VR model, iirc, that’s made to be used for the bigger stuff. This is a small practice amp, and not something that I plan to use to play at a bar gig…with a drummer, and an actual drum kit. Mostly noodling, maybe some light recording, occasionally available for a guest to plunk about with, here. I’ve turned the head 90°, to face me when seated… I can just reach out, and use the controls with ease.
The chair came today, and I was actually ready for it. I’d spent the last couple of weeks ripping through studio stuff to do a little spring cleaning, and make some room for another piece of furniture down here. It’s working out pretty well so far, and I’m feeling like I’m ready for playoffs. The little jam-theater thing is starting to come together a bit.

I want that setup. At first I was looking at the cab alone. Of course more wants than needs.
Awesome, congrats

By the way the chair almost intrigues me more, long times sitting in my current chair sucks.

Perhaps I should have gone into more detail on the chair…sorry for that. It’s a “commercial grade” model, made by a manufacturer called Dreamseat -it’s the “stealth recliner”. The only chair model that they make that doesn’t have to be shipped via freight. Mine came via FedWrex ground. I ordered through a site called Zoro and it arrived in half of the projected time. Last night was my first night with it, and it was pretty good overall. Gonna require some break-in, and since it’s not exactly the same dimensions as my previous chair, I need to work out the new ergonomics. It does have the same footprint as my previous chair, so it just dropped into the space I was already using, but it’s taller/higher seating. One thing that’s new to me is the triggering mechanism is a rip-cord thing…not sure how that’s going to handle life, but so far so good. It was very easy to sit with the T-40, or the T-60, and play comfortably.

So….I gave the new studio additions a thorough work out last night. I noodled my way through a hockey game, and a Svengoolie movie, playing bass and guitar in comfort. Switching between the two was pretty effortless, a cable swap and a few pedal taps…ready to go…and there was beer…
The Micro CL was super quiet at idle, and sounded pretty good when flogged with fuzz and stuff. I hope it holds up, because it was incredibly fun to jam through. Just right, in the volume department, for evening/night-time fun for my needs. I may take a stab at recording with it tomorrow…perhaps…slap the D6, and 421, on it…and see if it translates.

The mini's just overdrive so nicely at reasonable levels dont they. I gonna put my VR head on the fridge tomorrow to see whats up. Its so good on 2 cabs SVT210av . its so close to band level..i mean threshold close. See what what the big cabs gives up.

That VR is definitely not a toy amp. I’m sure it will sound pretty darned good pushing the fridge. At 200 watts SS, it should push enough air to keep up…with the right cab(s). I’ve read good stuff about the VR. Seems like it would be a good choice for practice, and light band duties. I just didn’t want the fan noise for my personal use…the Vr head and cab(s) are supposed to be a real step above my little CL.

They are, the VR has some of the best natural OD i ever played..the SVT cab is crucial to it. I have been in a/b land all weekend & wow have i got to hear the nuances,

The VR acts like a tube amp no doubt. It saturates very slowly which is so cool. It is very close to the 1981.

Key to SVT is sealed 2 x10's is my conclusion the fridge is 4 sealed 2x10's & the svt210 av cabs respond just like it but give it up a lil quicker.

My thought & its very feasible is 2) VR rigs side by side running vertical if we gig the Americana band, pick it all up with 1 hand lol

I like the mini you have, they sound great--
