Am i possibly searching for Laney tone ?

Hey, Got really dialed in on the JVM410 for gigs & the Plexi clone for endless jamming for new song inspiration. Have been listening to Black Sabbath Sabotage a lot, which maybe is "the" album that steered the musical taste course ever since I was 11. Also JP Screaming for Vengeance tone is starting to pop up recently. I love those 2 tones.

Tony's tone was always so thick and does not pierce your ears as much it seems & do you think maybe have been trying to force my Marshalls into Laney Zone over the years. I do run a Mesa V Twin rack preamp into the Marshalls to get that bottom i need for the down tune newer stuff but am writing a whole new album and staying in Standard E & E flat tuning.

Anyone one ever record or play the Laneys ? One of the few haven't tried. Don't think i want to go (Orange & Mesa)& Marshall this go round. Maybe Plexi & JCM 800. Seems like laney would pair well with my amps for recording.

Those are two very cool tones. I'm an old Black Sabbath junky. Anything of the first Ozzy era Sabbath tones always make me smile. Judas Priest's Sad Wing of Destiny still does it for me... :cheers:
 
I had a Laney AOR50 Pro Tube and gigged it for a couple of years. It was an amazing amp, completely got you right into Iommi zone with little effort. Had it's own thing going on, not Marshally at all. One thing though - the Fane speakers were a big part of the sound. I got rid of it only to downsize at a time when I needed to, otherwise I probably would have played that amp a long time.

In a previous post, you mentioned the heavy…but with clarity. If I keep the gain down around noon, mine gets right there. Throw a treble booster in front of it, plug in a P90 guitar(or humbuckers, if that’s what you’ve got), set the tone stack up to suit the neck pickup, and watch your pants flap in the breeze. Then the tone stack is kinda weird and the controls all interact with each other…once I do get it dialed in though…I like it very much.

Then there’s the LA-30BL, and LA-100BL that are more current Supergroup tributes. I’d tell you about them if I could, but…haven’t laid hands on one.

Might be worth a try. The AOR Pro Tube, and AOR Series II, models can still be had on the used market these days.

Thanks man, is that boost in the lower mids ? Think that is what i am noticing. I need to sit right above a P bass but under my M circuits.

My man, thanks . I use treble booster on my Marshall's even tho bright to begin with for recording leads it pops em. AOR has had me looking for sure. I almost seems redundant if i get another Marshall.

Thanks for mentioning the speakers. The under appreciated "final" tone filter. I kept pretty much 1 of everything for recording. No Fane experience yet. been reading about them
 
Hey for clarity it is not so much Iommi tone but that British thick tone that seems to be just shifted below a Marshall and am fascinated with pairing in recordings. Recto and 800 are my fave but all it does it bring out the heavies in me. Trying to find that new combo and be old school heavy but not Sabbath not JP but in the tonal Zone of the era. Appreciate all the help. I miss this nerdy tone talk. lol
 
Interesting tone experiment day. Been eyeing up Ceriatone HW JCM 51 All Access & Plexi 51 All Access. Love all the ways you can set the amps. Really interested in a JCM 800 Circuit.

After listening to these amps started building a massive pedal station on the floor for the 4 holer. Basically any kind of gain staging i can think of, have about 10 drives in a row LOL. Using the bass side its interesting to boost with treble boosters. A couple pedals staged can remove some flub. Not looking for metal just having fun. But i learned a lot. 1 playing music is what it is all really about & when the whole signal chain is spot on for task at hand ..yeah man. Pretty wild how SD JB & Dimarzio SD are such drastically dif eq. Actually depend on it,
