Ok, so this weekend, we were sitting around the studio talking and drinking beer when the question came up, between us 5 guitarists, (all there working on different projects) of who we each felt like the other ones sounded most like. This was more of a fun exercise than truly trying to pin anyone into a particular box. To add to the fun, the sound engineer joined in on some of these comparisons. The idea here was to identify a particular style and phrasing as opposed to just tone in general.
The comparisons literally ran the gamut from George Harrison, SRV, John Sykes and Randy Rhoads - where the other players were concerned - and we had some opinions that differed somewhat from the sound engineer.
In my case, the sound engineer commented that he found the way that I compose leads to be very unique and very melodic. However, when pressed by the group for a name, he remarked, "Well, now, Rob's very unique to my ear, but his phrasing, attack, the way he arranges notes, use of vibrato and harmonics, I would say it's kinda similar to John Christ of Danzig."
Although I never really listened to his work before, I was actually quite pleased with the comparison. However, I thought it might be fun to pos the same question to you guys, since you have now heard several of my own solo compositions.
Thoughts???
