Dave Sloven
Ambassador of DOOM!
I finally took a decent enough photo of my Explorer where you can see the whole front of it clearly.
Here are the specs on it. It originally had a white pickguard and gold hardware and pickup covers. It was manufactured in the Unsung factory in South Korea in 2006. When I got it the factory nut had been changed out to what is in there now. I suspect it was made from a TUSQ blank but I can't be sure. It's not bone.
Bare Knuckle Nailbomb pickup set
CTS pots tested at 550K
Neck volume pot has a 0.022uf capacitor and 470K resistor wired in series, the master tone pot has been deleted
Switchcraft short style selector switch in old neck volume pot position
Wiring harness custom made by myself out of MilSpec shielded wire
Swithcraft output jack
Aluminium diamond plate mirror-finish pickguard made by Snakebite Customs in Germany
Chrome Tone Pros bridge and tailpiece set
Chrome Grover auto-locking tuners
DiMarzio ClipLock strap system
Some $3 two-way switch with ON/OFF marked on it that I bought from the local Jaycar Electronics store and wired up as a series/parallel switch for the neck pickup (it also filled the hole in the pickguard)
Tuned to C standard (C F A# D# G C) with D'Addario EXL 117 11-56 string set
You can hear it live in this video. I had a few problems with the neck pickup live but otherwise it was okay.
My rig is a Peavey 6534+ (120W tube amp) through two 412 Celestion Vintage 30 cabs. Other main ingredients in the sound are probably my MXR/CAE Boost/Linedriver, EQD Ghost Echo reverb, and MXR 10-band EQ pedals. I think in the video you might hear me turn the reverb off now and then or use my MXR Black Label Chorus or MXR Carbon Copy too, but only for specific sections. In the second video I use a whole heap of pedals at the end for a noise outro, including a Boss DD-7, Boss RC-1, and a Boss HM-6.
I make a few mistakes here and there. It was hot in there, as you can probably tell my the sweat all over me and the date (remembering the seasons here in the southern hemisphere).
