2005 Epi LP '56 Goldtop

They are nice.

I offered $225 for this one in Seoul, but the fella declined. He text me back last week saying that he would accept $$225 if I come and collect it (1 hour train journey from me, $40 return), but I've been busy and going away on hols in a few days.

When I return, I have to take one of my SGs up to Seoul to a fella who's buying it, so I'll call this Epi 56 fella to see if he still has it - if so, I''ll check it out.

Epiphone Les Paul Goldtop 1956

I think he has put a tailpiece from a Gibson studio on it and changed the knobs (maybe from a Gibson studio too).

Not sure from these pics, so may ask him to send me a pic of the back with the serial number... It'd solve my P90 problem. Plus, I've never really owned a Les Paul, so...

Which SG are you selling?

No one wants to spend $2250 for this Fender Custom shop beauty?

I mean I like it though......on the other hand I really ain't a Goldtop fan :hide:

Good to hear from you, Gahr.

A funny process has happened... I loved the faded when I got it, especially the neck, but it wasn't perfect (plays well, but I should change the nut really, and the frets are good but not excellent), but then loved the Future Tribute too due to the slim neck, really nice thin nitro on the neck and asymmetrical shape (the nut is cut really well and the frets are very good, not perfect). So, I decided to sell one, so I put them both up for sale and decided to sell whichever one went first - and then I noticed that the finish on the Future Tribute was coming off in slices and chunks; I didn't like that at all and won't be buying a Gibson satin finish ever again - sold it for a $300 loss to a friend, but accepted the difference in guitar lessons (which I've been having every day, and I'm improving loads and playing with others, so enjoying that a lot). Also, somebody wants the faded, and I said I'd sell it to them when I get back off my hols if they still want it (pretty much for the price I paid for it).

So, why falling out of love with the Gibsons? The ugly Cort I bought has an amazing neck and absolutely perfect frets and fretboard, so I play that all the time'; it just plays so well, the nut is cut well, the locking tuners and maple neck keep in tune far better than the Gibsons too. The Cort has a 12" to 16" fretboard which feels lovely to play.

When I get back from my hols, I'll be checking out a few SG standards and Fender American teles (with humbuckers) in Seoul, but I am not buying another guitar unless the neck is at least on a par to this Cort. I am finding that neck, frets, fretboard and locking tuners are making a world of difference to me (so, I might look at a high end Ibanez too because they have these qualities, for example the one below).

I do love Gibsons, especially SGs, but there are other double cut slim necked guitars out there - I just need to find the SG neck pickup growl on one.

oh man................did you JUST SAY a CORT is better than a GIBSON......dude ---- the hate mail will POUR IN now----- duck and cover Grump --- headhunters are after ya ........you have thrown down the gauntlet and soiled the ever perceived "perfect and infallible quality of the "G" how dare you imply you like ANY guitar more than a GIBSON?!?!?!?

--- I am sorry man -- you have seen it happen before --- the verbal abuse and hazing of those that go against the grain--- I tried to worn ya.....

Say got any more pics of that lovely CORT ??? ;)

Not really... :D

I love Gibsons, and I like Epis too. But, as I'm becoming a better player and learning more about guitars, I'm realizing that there are many great brands, many great guitars, and some of them are not expensive.

Out of these two, I just enjoyed playing the red one more (the black one sounds better though...).

I went through the same journey. Is the finish of the Cort growing on you?

Whew....good then you most likely will not be tared and feathered.

That Cort reminds me of the Danelectros of old with the Glitter finishes. ....and the seats at an A&W Drive IN.....

Get a good Standard, or 61 Reissue if you want the slim neck.

At the rate you are going, you'll have tested most guitars out there in about a year.:D

Put a Gibson pup in that Cort. I agree with Gahr that if you really want a good Gibson SG you should just buy a Standard.wasnt to long ago i would see on Sweetwater Musics website you could get the SG Standards for about 1200$ but im not sure what they will run you where your out.Go check out that black one.
