1969 A Big Year For Music

1969 was surely a big year in music as it was the year when I got my first guitar and amp :D
1969. Freshman in HS…. And a gear head. Loved music but was more into lusting for a 1969…. Vette, Camaro, Charger, Mustang, etc. Finally acquired a 318 powered 70 Charger in 1973 and then a 77 Vette in 1999. Wished I’d have kept the Charger. Still have the Vette.

PS: I also did buy my first guitar in 1973 and another in 74. Both acoustic.

And not just 1969. Some of the best music was made late 60s into early 70s. Not that music wasn’t good before or after…. Just those were the formative years of my misspent youth. Coming of age.

I had several cars I wanted, one of them was 71 Corvette but I had been out of a school about a year technically 2 because the last year I mostly skipped.
In 1979 I almost bought it , needed a co- signer. Pop was not going to do it and I don’t blame him.
Ended up settling for a 1971 Mach One .

I was out of school and working. Was ready to buy a 1974 Vette. Had it figured out I could make the payments. Then there was the insurance man. I didn’t buy the Vette.

I was 13, and steeping my brain in the current cavalcade of pop, by keeping said brain in close proximity to CKLW, the Big 8, Detroit/Windsor.

So I heard, either on CK or on WOWO, a super-middle of the road 50,000 watt AM cooker in Fort Wayne, virtually all these songs, and loved most of them. What this montage points out is the amazing diversity of radio in the 60s and early 70s, before I ❤️ Radio and their focus groups ate everything.
