Sjobergs Smart Vise

It's a moxon vise and tabletop work bench. The rest is a whole lotta clamps.

It's only 24 x 20 inches. Big enough for a body or a neck more or less, but not enough to sag.

Yes, it's s piece of pegboard left over from the walls of my shop. It's ¼ inch and quite stiff. I considered middle bracing but don't seem to need it. Inside the box, there's panels which funnel down to the vacuum port. It decreases the area under the top to make the vacuum more efficient, as well.

Perhaps it's not strictly speaking a luthier's tool, but it's what I will mostly be using it for. Works really well, by the way. I've been sanding the strat body in preparation for spraying and my bench had very little sawdust on it.

This isn't as fancy as Ray's, but as you can see from the photo, it works! Built entirely from materials on hand (Yes! I have 8mm bearings on hand - Don't ask!)

Thanks for saying nice things, but your guitar is gorgeous and whatever works for you. I'm not trying to do production guitars. I just do it for the pleasure it brings me and the sense of accomplishment .

I did the bulk of the carving with a Shinto saw rasp. The shaping around the heel and headstock I did with some imitation dragon rasps I bought on Amazon.

So the neck is done, save for some finer grit sanding and frets.

Good for you. Show it who's boss. Although, I will note that Clapton doesn't use his pinky for soloing.

Neck carving day! The heel end isn't done yet.

The need to do this, and the difficulty I was having getting something passably decent looking, was what actually stalled this V build a couple of years ago. More I can continue with yet another mistake fix, which is "adjusting" the neck pocket rout by moving it about 1/32” towards the bass side.
