Husk mod - AXL LP

So I got this AXL LP husk today. My enthusiasm prevented me from taking pics out of the box, but it was all dark stain with a monster dent on the edge by the output jack and a series of dents in the center back, approx 3"x4" and 1/8-deep.

Looking good. I think the contrast of light back, dark front, will look nice.

How's the head stock looking?

Nice progress.
Mine is ok with a few small dings you have to really look for.
just not sure what to topcoat it with after a little fine sanding.
Wipe on satin poly is in contention.

BUT - my truss rod is frozen!!!
I have it on a stand and shot a little PB Blaster down the hole last night.
I dunno what would cause a bind in a new guitar, Glue?

Man, that is unfortunate. I did not even check the TR.

I am going to use Spray poly. This stuff was recommended by some luthiers on another forum and is also used by auto guys for small jobs. I used it on my family build too.

Yes, the binding was detached. Another repairable defect. It has already been superglued

I did the whole family build with 1 can. The spray is even to the end. The tip does not clog. My dad used to use the auto body sprayers at the utility co where he worked and he was impressed. Check the Amazon reviews.

It just hit me that the poly is as much as the guitar!
 
I just discovered this program ("Paint") on my Start menu , so I will play. Here is where the dents were. They were substantial and the ones on the back were spread over double the size indicated (which makes this more fun!)

This project looks like a lot of fun. Many challenges to overcome and decisions to be made. You'll have a one of a kind when you're done and a great story to go along with it.

Too bad that dent is not on the top...you could sand a belly cut into the body and get rid of t that way!
