2" X 12" Cab Ideas

After doing the Dsl cab structural repair , I tried the stock speaker. I think because of the open back combo I dislike it because it seems like the bottom end is missing so it sounds shrill to me.

After playing my x WGS Reaper x (not a reaper) , oops not a Reaper
its Retro 30 ,75 watts in a single closed cab it is a much better sound.
Anyway my idea is to make a taller angle cab. The entire baffle surface area 24" x 24" would be about a 70°

The app I installed to draw this is nothing like Autocad so I don't have proper intersecting lines and I couldn't figure out how to change font size.

"A" cabs add a level of difficulty with the half slant.
Might be easier to make a "B" cab and just angle the baffle back a little.
This is a 1965B (4x10), but the 2x12 1966B is the same spec.

Not one of mine - dude on MF made this scratch build about a year ago.
If you're thinking about an extension cab for the 40CR, here's another idea...
Go a little taller and you could get two 12's in a cab like this.

Further thoughts...
Is this 212 plan for an eventual headshell mod on the 40, or an extension cab ?

As an extension, the 212 will only get half the amp output when using the internal speaker at the same time.
You could balance this a bit with speaker efficiency, but with the combo on top, you're probably going to mostly hear the combo speaker - even with the 212 angled up.

This type of 112 extension in the pic above would balance the amp output to just 2 speakers.
(Much easier build as well)

Good point. I never considered that idea.
I had planed to use it as a stand alone but not considering how much of a waste it is to have a combo cab with a speaker not in use.

I will consider a single speaker the same width as the combo. In consideration of the future of the combo , a head shell will definitely make more sense.

The best cab design is TL-806. And double that internal volume for 2X12s.
Maybe I would just build 2X 1-12 cabinets, to ease the weight. I might do that instead.
Oh, my aching back.

Well, once you make one 112, the second one will be rinse & repeat... :rolf:
DSL40CR in a headshell on a stack of 112's - my kinda rig! :yesway:
Now , hold on. I like the idea but in the context of a 2 x 12's vs 2 - 1 x 12's labor and material. I would rather build a single 2 x 12 and a head cab done.
If I had good place to do all this work it would be simple. Lol

I understand, the wife is watching... (wink/wink)

I often take for granted that I've spent a lifetime accumulating most of the tools I have from other hobbies and finding good deals here and there along the way - another hobby in and of itself.

Are you set on building one? You could probably pick up a used MX cab for a decent price, but you'll probably want to replace the speakers. I have mine loaded with Creambacks now and it sounds pretty darn good.
I am set on it but only because I have the material. I found a very nice Seismic 2 x 12 angle cab. Reality is I should have just bought everything and been done with it. Lol

That's not bad however $95 shipping.
I just ordered a cab from GC, shipping was $32.36 and it got here in 3 days.

Taxes is what gets you, I had to pay $60 in taxes on mine.

This looks like a good deal, but those taxes. :run:
