Warmoth Body & Neck Build… Black Cherry

Are you familiar with strings? Lots of folks use them.
It's just a fad!

I'm still waiting for those new Kluson tuners from WD Music... :BH:

I should have been more devious by immediately buying another new set after I discovered the original set to be defective. I'll install the new set, and then I'll send back the parts of the original set back to the vendor and claim my new set is defective and I want a refund... :sneaky:

The new set of Kluson tuners arrived three days ago… “YAY!” The next day I began the installation process. As I went to install and press in the last tuner bushing, it simply dropped in the hole again… WTF!!! All the tuner holes measured at 10.3mm, including the last empty tuner hole. This is the correct Warmoth spec of 13/32, or 10.3mm. The questionable bushing measured 10.2mm! Kluson spec is 10.5mm. Contacted Kluson/WD Music again, and they will ship me four extra bushings which all measure at 10.5mm according to the customer service tech.

Realistically, the new parts should arrive the later part of next week. But I’ll be RV camping most of next week, so this build’s next update won’t happen until after I get home. Crazy, huh?

Sorry to hear that. My "double thick" baseplate strat style Kluson bridge was great. Are you sure you aren't just stalling for time here? I mean "camping" after Labor Day in the rain. It's really at the guitar shop isn't it?

I don't get it either. AFAIK, modern day Kluson products (parts manufactured in Korea) have a fine reputation. And yeah... we'll be camping at the south-east side of Lake Tahoe. Don't feed the bears! Don't get eaten by the bears!!

We just spent the night in Carson City on Labor Day. We were on our way to Lake Almanor. Beautiful area.

So, last week I was out of town camping while the much needed and correct tuner bushing was delivered. WD Music sent me four bushings to pick from, ha ha! First bushing I picked, fit the way I expected it too. Thank you WD Music! Finally installed all tuners, neck, and strings. Spent a couple days dialing in the overall setup and I'm happy to say that this is a fun guitar to express yourself with a variety of useable tones. I know I might be in the Honeymoon phase, but these Wilde (Bill & Becky Lawrence) pickups are impressive.

I'll try to provide some more sexy close-ups in a few days.

Definitely a dazzling guitar.
I like the schaller bridge also.

The latest on this project…

Rather than take a good chance on personally screwing up this guitar, one week ago I dropped off the guitar to give it a professional setup including minor fret work. I like my action on the low side, and the frets are stainless steel. I found, as did the guitar shop owner, three minor high spots at three different frets. I also want the fret ends as smooth as reasonably possible. Did I say that these are stainless steel frets?

Another problem I encountered was that I couldn’t set the neck perfectly straight with no strings attached. My fault for, at the time, not completely understanding how the Warmoth modern necks with their dual truss rods with their dual adjustment mechanisms work. Even though I now know, I felt more comfortable by having someone who hasn’t lost as many brain cells as I have to do the work properly.

I’m posting a couple links for those that might be interested on the functions of a Warmoth modern neck. On the first link, make sure you click on “Details on Adjusting and Resetting the Side Adjust Mechanism”:

And…

I love their double truss rod with side adjuster necks. 10 of my Warmoth necks have them.
Ha ha! I forgot that you're Mr. Warmoth! Should have asked you for advise... :BH:

Were you able to dial in a straight neck, with no string tension, pretty easily? This wenge wood for the neck is crazy. It's super stiff and super hard... :sneaky:. I think I didn't allow enough time for the neck to settle in between adjustments. And yeah, that side adjusting mechanism is pretty trick!

I follow their instructions and set it flat with the coarse adjustment before installing the neck with the side adjustment most of the way out. I then string it up, tune it, and use the side adjustment to get about 0.08” relief at the 8th fret.

Man that blk cherry is SICK!
