OK, I should be fine for overdrive/distortion/fuzz now.
Recently, I got back a Marshall MG30FX which I wasn't keen on. I've been playing around with it and realized that somehow it had a nasty preset on all the time (the amp doesn't seem to have preset buttons, but I should have looked at the manual...
). That nasty distortion and hum preset also had a tiny tiny bit of slapback delay. I thought the speaker was crap, but it was just my own stupidity (the speaker probably isn't great...).
Anyways, I was chatting to a friend a couple of days ago who mentioned that I'd lent him a pedal a few years ago and he forgot to give it back to me. I got that back yesterday, and it's a really nice treble booster - that's a new old pedal day.
I also picked up a speaker from a friend for US$15 (it's not the best speaker or in the best condition...) - that's a new old speaker day. I haven't put it in yet.
I also picked up an EHX overdrive which I really like, but it's intermittent on its working - some days it works, and some days it doesn't; doesn't like being in a chain - I'm gonna have to think about that...
I got a new fuzz pedal that arrived today, a ram's head signature model; some say it's the same as the standard pedal with a different colour scheme, some say it's slightly tweaked to be more like the original '73 (whatever that means), but EHX don't say much because J Mascis has an agreement with another pedal company for a ram's head signature pedal... Here's the pics:

I'm playing with an SG Special and finding that these three pedals work best on the clean channel with enough gain to get a bit of grit when the guitar volume is on full. Then, once I put the pedal on, I have to roll down the guitar volume to various preferred settings. All three pedals sound very good and different.
I'm thinking that with some more trial and error, I should easily be ably to put two of these pedals together to find a really nice combo as well as individual pedal sounds - that should give me a lot of great OD, punk, 60s rock, 70s rock, 70s metal and 90s thrash punk/indie sounds just by controlling my guitar pickups and volume/tone. As these are pretty much the only genres I play, I'm sorted. I reckon with a DSL 1 this'd sound much better, but the treble booster does a surprisingly good job of bring in a "tube amp" type sound.
