NEW (used) EPI GT

The newest addition to the family will be here by next week.
I picked it up used, this guitar is pretty well packed with features for the price. Why did Epi stop the GT series?
High output pups, killswitch, smaller explorer body for people who dislike (me) playing over the back fin of a 57 Caddy. Contured edges, and a nice matte transparent black finish.
I like explorer body shapes, I like the V headstocks ... Best of both worlds!!
This now satisfies my quest for an explorer.

.... psst, hey Brad, we need to talk straps.

It looks like Gibson PUs, not Epi pickups.
That's the first thing I would have changed on an Epi.

really like that, looks like a small body, but that front strap button placement looks super sketch to me.
Suggest a set of pro-pins on that baby for sure!

You know one of my recent "wasted" leathers would look pretty great on that worn finish.

How did you manage to lay it on a moose to get that photo?

We have very obedient Moose here in NJ. :ROFLMAO:

I have a set of your pro pins waiting for it. Matter of fact I have a set of your old school straplocks with skulls embossed on them.

I paid sub $300 for it so this is going to be my project axe.

Airbrush? Airbrush? Noooo, I say. You need to break out the DREMEL my friend. :)

The Explorer is here, and it needs some TLC.
First the relief on the neck was way off, it was buzzing at the first fret and the action was sky high.
I think the strings are made of bridge cabling. If I were to guess, its a set of 12s .... I need to get some strings.
The pickup height needed adjustment.

It plays pretty good now, except for the really thick strings. I cant bend them without a good amount of effort.
Had to test it before ripping the strings off.
I need to clean the crud on the fretboard and condition it.
Reset the set up for the new set of strings.
Whoever owned it wasnt into maintenance.

I ordered the strings online since I'm still stuck at home.
Also, the pickup adjustment screw was stripped. Replaced that too.

Otherwise, the frets are in great shape with little signs of wear.

I put a pair of Brad's old school straplocks on it, and I'm done for the day. Strings should be here in a couple of days. Hopefully I will feel better by then.

The rosewood looks pretty nice, now that its cleaned up.

Thank you @TVvoodoo for the strap locks. Unfortunately, they are holding in an inferior strap.

Here is a closeup of the fretboard after I finished cleaning and conditioning it.

Finally slapped a new set of strings on “Dora the Explorer”.
The pups on this thing are really hot.
The neck pup is really dark.

So far, the neck plays super smooth. The fret ends are really smooth.

What a difference a set of strings makes. The old ones were so dirty, you could feel the filth on the underside of the strings.
