Extra! Extra! Read All About It! @DonO Reviews Origin 50H /Ivanberg Headfirst/Jose Mod!

I needed the Ivanberg for an upcoming recording, so @Don O was kind enough to drop it off for me on Thursday.

Here's my revised amp settings required with the new Celestion Copperback Neodymium 250 watt speakers...

And here's today's shakedown run....master volume on 8, 6CA7's and as loud as could be bearable modulating volume with the Boss FV30L.

Just a cell phone recording.

Have you tried a mobile phone app to enhance your phone's audio recording capabilities?

I have the free app 'Dolby On' on my phone. I've only used it once, but when I played back the recording through the computer and it's speaker system, it did sound decent.
I’ve got that app to. It is really easy to use and you can tweak the sound and send right to SoundCloud. Haven’t tried it yet with YouTube.

Ok,

I made a short recording this morning of the Ivanberg Modded Origin 50 without any FX. The amp was sitting in my hardwood floored office with the Scarlett CM25 MkII mic above it about 8 inches. The hard floors give a kind of 'splash' reverb-esque quality.

Here's the setup when I recorded:

And here are the amp settings:

Note power scaling switch in 'MID' setting (Loudest) and the Jose/Zener Diodes are out of play (Direct) on the right microswitch (middle position) again these are the loudest settings.

Note gain at noon (boost off) and volume is only on '3' (10am)

@syscokid will affirm that this is one of the LOUDEST amplifiers you will EVER hear. It's at least twice as loud (dial position for dial position) as the JCM800/2204 owned by Rat's Nest Studios.

Here's the short clip.

This still is NOT what I'm hearing in the room (as @Don O will attest) but this 10 times better than the SM57.

Try this next time, just for a laugh. Set up your rig to sound the way that you like it to sound…take note of where you are standing/sitting when you get the sound you like….go get the mic stand, and place it where you were standing/sitting…set the mic at head level, and point toward speaker cab…hit record, and find someplace else to stand/sit and play.

That's a great idea!!!!

@Don O had the amp for a while and even with first class audio equipment, could not capture what he was hearing in the room!!!!

I used to do that to some of the guys I recorded demos for….pissed them off at first when I kicked them out of their chosen spot. But they were always happy with the results….I always mixed with a close mic too.

I tried both a SM57 and a e609, close and about 3 ft away. Now of course this is my first time trying to record with a mic, I’m new to Reaper and the Mackie mixer is new. Other than that, I’m all set :run:
