Nut is progressing. I'm using my standard fall-away techniques that I employ on tremolo equipped guitars.
This one is strung with Dean Markley .011" x .052" strings. First fret string height is .030" and 12th fret to string height is .070" respectively. This is my default adjustments.
(Interesting that these exact specs were also found on my 2021 Gibson Les Paul 50's Standard.)
Another view...nut slot spacing was altered/widened to give a straight string path to the tuners and increase usable fretboard are on the 1.6595" wide neck.
This project is very close to being finished at long last. Just a few small details left!@@!
1. The strings are very close to the edge of the fretboard due to the down angle of the strings. I broke this edge with a file, (shown below) but it needs to be cut back further to the pencil line.
2. The longer 10mm length height adjustment screws need to be fitted to the 'G' and 'D' saddles.
3. The nut slots need to be burnished with valve grinding compound and old strings to remove any imperfections or irregularities.
4. Fretboard oiling
That's pretty much it. Everything else is done. I'll try to knock these items out today between sessions...
The low 'E' is never pulled up, so it's biased more towards the fret end.
The low 'e' is often pulled down, so it needs to have more room.
Remember that string spacing is based on the path through the nut and not a theoretic measurement. Every guitar will have a different string path based on how the tuners were located.
So, based on advice from @SG John , we accepted the scale length variation (12.250" from nut face to center of 12th fret) and installed slightly longer intonation screws on the 'D' and 'e' saddles.
This brought everything into spec.
This image was snapped before the longer screws were installed.
