Marshall Super Lead 100

I was just joshin....
I was too, regarding a trade. No-one in their right mind would give up their 60's era double halo getters xf2's in a trade for early 70's era single halo getter variants.
These are a matching date code (B2J3 = Blackburn plant, 1962, October, 3rd week) double halo getter xf2 duet that have been in my '68 JMP50 for about 2 months

Cheers

If you have a matched "double halo getter" duet showing getter flashing in like condition, I'll trade you. I'll even accept dis-similar rebrands.
On the subject of "getter flashing" (the silver stuff deposited inside the glass envelope), I don't buy NOS valves from eBay, Reverb etc, but for anyone looking to, the getter flashing's condition can be a good indicator of how many hours use have accumulated on the tubes.
New tubes should show getter flashing like seen on the GE branded Mullards I posted a pic of earlier. Note the sharp edge of the flashing (& thin darkish band right at the edge of). Also a very solid silver colouring throughout the flashing.
By contrast, heres a pic of a couple of "used" Mullard xf3 (stapled plates) EL34's

These are currently for sale, expensively, on Reverb. Note the getter flashing (Barium) has been quite lessened through use, more so on the tube on the right. We could surmise that this is a "mix n match" duet, not pulls from the same piece of equipment (less hours on the tube on the left). Apologies for the derail. Cheers
Yeah, I can tell quite a bit by looking inside the glass.
Good way to spot fake NOS tubes.
There is so many fake NOS being sold these days, people need to learn this.
But generally I discourage people from buying old tubes because they cause so many problems.

Unless you guys really know how to spot a fake NOS tube:
stick to buying new tubes and don't take the chance. Experts can see the difference but most people miss it.

Interesting fact I own a 1959 Fender Concert amp and have a 1964 Fender Concert amp in the shop
both amps have Mullard 12AX7 stock date codes match year of production and test as new.
The 1959 is a 5G12 and the 1964 is a AB763 sound wise the 1959 is the one. Marshall Killer.
I did own a 1964 Marshall JTM 45 4 x 10" combo in the past.

Fake NOS
you can see that the silver inside the glass is almost completely gone.
These tubes have many many hours of usage, and are not real NOS.
These tubes are being sold for $69, and are for all purposes useless.

Fake NOS
This tube has no life left at all. It is being sold for $184.95.
The silver inside is completely gone from hundreds of hours of usage.

another destroyed EL34, being offered for $695.00.

Fake NOS
A pair of roasted old Telefunkens burned black on the inside = $399.00 = Garbage.
A pair of real toasty-roasters.

Some Flame-Broiled Medium Well Done 6L6s, only $100 a pair !

White cabs are positively heavenly. I built a Super100 JH clone (supposedly a modified version of this model). Oh, to have an empty stadium and a full stack. Sigh...
I meant to say that I put it in a purple cab and named it “Purple Haze” in honor of the guy that made it famous . How I wish that I could run it past 2.

Silver at the top looks really good on a few of those.

Now that's funny, I just sprayed coffee all over.

Photos can be Trickey. Positioning of the valve, lighting, reflections & the reflective nature of the getter flashing etc etc etc can all make the flashing "appear" quite different to how it actually is. It's just one more reason why I will not buy NOS valves through eBay etc. Cheers

I never have either.
On the subject of Tesla valves, here's something I had meant to share with you a while back, but forgot about. KT88's & 300B's being handmade in the old Tesla works, team headed up by a woman who learned valve manufacturing techniques there in her youth. As I have problems posting video links, I'll (hopefully successfully) link the American distributors page. Scroll to almost the bottom of the page & you'll see "click here to see the E. A.T factory video". Only a short video, (though among other manufacturing processes, it does show a quick scene of a valve being "gettered" using induction heating, for those who don't know how this is done). Hopefully this info is of interest. VANA LTD Brings Handmade E.A.T Vacuum Tubes to North American Market
Of course, they are expensive (as is to be expected) & noticeably more so through the US distributor. Hope I linked it properly. Cheers

I found the RFT 34's overated. The XF2'S I love. In a Marshall.

My fav CP power tubes are Gold Lion KT77's which resemble JJ's not, EH 6CA7'S and JJ 6CA7's. Can't remember last time I used an EL 34 really. The Gold Lion's come close to XF2's.

I'm weird though. At least I play my Marshallz loud and proud. Still weird though.

I should give the NP Gold Lion a try I do have a account with New-sensor as far as repairs use JJ/Telefunken they hold up well but sound poor.
